The Telegraph demonstrating again that it makes no effort at all at balance or news reporting, but is entirely political. It is surely no longer what you would call a news organisation, but rather a political lobbying group

First among its aims: "to facilitate the movement of people and goods in London—reliably and safely, and with minimum overall environmental impact" and to "encourage walking". Maybe pedestrianisation—not just of Oxford Street but of the wider West End—is the ultimate form of a London Red Route.

lhur.bsky.social reposted

A different Oxford Street is almost here. One year ago I signed highway authority for it over from Westminster Council. The opposition called the decision to make Oxford Street a TfL Road "utterly ridiculous - since Red Route regulations are about maintaining traffic flow, not pedestrianisation."

I've always believed Oxford Street could be so much more than a road. Today we begin a new chapter as the nation’s high street goes traffic free, creating a place where people can spend time, enjoy the atmosphere and experience the very best of our city.

I'm SO excited about this. Our streets should be seen as public spaces, not just territory filled by and controlled by cars. I love the idea of Oxford street being a human-centred space, designed around pedestrians. It'll take a while to develop but 🎉🎉🎉 www.theguardian.com/cities/2026/...

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

It won’t massively change the underlying politics, but Lula winning will provide a big boost to the mood at the COP17 Biodiversity Summit and COP31 Climate Summit.

Slightly odd vox pop here. The guy on the bike literally needs to cycle 30 seconds right and head down Wigmore St, which runs exactly parallell the whole way. Am a cyclist myself, but the self entitlement of some mirrors some SUV drivers.

In Brazil voting is mandatory, so the State must provide free transportation to all on election day. In at least 7 states, public transportation was sabotaged by a number of right wing prefectures resulting in potentially irreversible damages to Brazilian democracy.
