My 2nd goldfish was more closely related to Jacques Cousteau than to the 3rd shark I ever saw. One of those fruit flies I heard the other day had sperm 20 times the length of its body. My 1st child's friend's cousin is, genetically, 60% the same as a plum.

Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape. Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.

‘I don’t usually give out advice or recipes, but you must let the person looking at the photograph go some of the way to finishing it. You should offer them a seed that will grow and open up their minds.’ - Robert Doisneau, Paris, 1987. Photo by Peter Adams. I agree wholeheartedly.

There's been a real failure on the part of progressive leaders this summer to link the weather and Net Zero in the public mind. Most people get it, but the consensus is crumbling and it would be useful to reinforce it.

I know he has a lot on, but in the midst of a ferocious drought, fires, heat events and severe threats to food production, it would be quite edifying to hear Andy Burnham mention climate breakdown.

67 horses have died at the Aintree Festival since 2000. 17 after racing in the Grand National. This isn’t sport, it’s a death toll. We’re calling for a boycott. Don’t attend. Don’t bet. Switch off. It’s time to put horse welfare before profit.

We’re deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Sam Kieth. From The Maxx to his work across comics, Sam brought a completely unique look and voice to the industry. His art was raw and unmistakably his. Sam's influence will be felt for generations. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

The publishing industry's lack of confidence in authors and its own ability to create careers for them is pathetic and, in the end, self-defeating.

If, like me, you need a break from the exhausting task of spreading Christmas cheer to all, be sure to call someone a bony-eared assfish, 'distinguished, by some sources, as having the smallest brain-to-body weight ratio of any vertebrate.' #merrychristmas #assfish

This week's column. The details will make you gasp and rage. This massive desecration of nature is almost unbelievable, but it is happening in the UK right now. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
