Two young Americans would not have been shot dead in the street if more people had voted for the Democratic candidate for President last time around

Joe Flynn@chinajoeflynn.bsky.social

I guess I can in theory understand the argument for voting for incremental less-worse Dem candidates again and again, but they don't even try to make the argument, do they? They just shriek at you, "VOTE DEM NO MATTER HOW MUCH THEY SUCK OR YOU ARE A MONSTER."

I get they're inextricably intertwined but I kind of feel like leaning so much into how he was the longtime best buddy of the world's most notorious sex criminal has given it something of the feel of a political gotcha rather than the important part, which is that the president raped people.

Thomas Most reposted

I know there's a lot going on but I feel it should probably be more of an above-the-fold story that members of Congress released a thoroughly documented report directly accusing the president of the United States of being a serial rapist.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

turns out that voting is a very good way to kick right wing authoritarians out of power

The long-serving strongman leader of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has conceded defeat in an election that pitted him and his right-wing party against a diverse student-led opposition movement that spent two years protesting his government.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who spared a thought for my country today, who amplified information about the coup d’état attempt, and worried about Brazil’s democratic future—the world’s democratic future. We won! Women won! The Amazon won! Young people won! Democracy won! Hope won!

if you nationalize spacex and deport musk, turn over hegseth to iran, nationalize palantir and deport thiel, the rest of them will start cutting any deal they can

Thomas Most reposted

i can see an argument that at some point mass prosecutions of these guys might actually engender a backlash effect. i think you can just start with a peace deal with iran that involves turning over hegseth to them to answer for the children he killed and then going from there. it will have an effect

I don't know what the holdup is bringing CXG to Broadway. Pick the best 4 songs from each season and you have a score better than 90% of the shows that opened in 2026

I don't like to speculate what it must feel like to go through life with your brain pickled in rightwing agitprop like this guy's clearly has been, but I imagine that, sensation-wise, it can't be far off from a cordyceps infection

Apples are just astonishingly better than when I was a kid and what you'd get at the grocery store were either mushy red delicious or lemon-sour granny smiths.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Liberal Currents is not just a publication that talks about liberalism. We try to do our best to make liberal values constitutive of who we are. One of those underrated aspects of liberalism is the emphasis on *learning* www.liberalcurrents.com/help-us-learn/

This is what I need denialists to understand: the AI evangelists' wildest fever dreams (sentience, the singularity, whatever-the-fuck) don't need to be real for the tech to be hugely consequential. A machine gun doesn't need to be superintelligent.

Yeah, it rules (until the Amber Spyglass, which as others in this thread have noted, reads as a needless self-own of the rest of the series)

The name of New Mexico is funny because it's one of those things that you'd think is really simple (oh, it's it used to be part of old Mexico, so we'll call it New Mexico!), but it's much more complex New Mexico as the name for the area predates Mexico by several hundred years!

Another one. The premise: Young people are cutting off their parents for minor mistakes and misunderstandings. The lead anecdote: A woman severs ties with her family for refusing to get vaccinated before her wedding — to a man who *lost his mother and brother to COVID*

I’ve read Bad Blood and know the facts. Holmes committed a spectacular fraud, beyond a doubt. What shines through, even in the earlier work, is that SHE WASN’T PARTICULARLY GOOD AT IT: absurd founder myths and elite cluelessness did 90% of the work.

the fact that a smart person can come away with this view points to what a bad job fielder did of actually presenting the facts around the theranos fraud

Mike is right about this and I was misinformed. I apologize for adding to the cloud of confusion

No. You have it wrong. THey have argued they have editorial power, because they do. It's so weird, you're like the 50th person to make this blatantly false argument to me tonight. It's astounding how uninformed people are about the law here.

One would be good and the other would be bad because one cause is good and the other is bad. We are not in the realm of procedural justice concerns anymore, liberalism is not obligated to be neutral on the question of its own existence.
