There's a Politico (lol) piece entirely about how Republicans' hope right now is that the polls are all way off and they only get a MILD wipeout and first of all it's full of a bunch of nonsense but the best part is how it ends on this incredible bit:

Alienating every hospital worker, federal employee, and military preparedness nerd in the country might possibly be enough to swing elections out of reach of one's party for a decade; before the tariffs, recalls, measles outbreak, and constant terrorism.

In what world does *Watergate* count as "generational national trauma" and somehow NOT scandal after scandal (after scandal...), each of them multiple times more severe than what Nixon and crew did?!

Who was that guy? Oh yeah! Russell Vought. "We want the bureaucrats to be traumatically affected. When they wake up in the morning, we want them to not want to go to work because they are increasingly viewed as the villains... We want to put them in trauma."

Yet another answer for my perpetual pre-Trump question, "how did the German people not see Hitler coming?" Turns out that if the pundit class is too busy cashing in, they won't notice the impact of a ten-year-long slow-motion trainwreck.

Generational national trauma, you say. Huh. Must be why I constantly have fantasies of champagne with my wife and Beethoven's Ninth on a constant fucking loop once that pedophile cacks on his last burnt, ketchup-doused steak.

They literally came into office with the stated goal of traumatizing the civil service, and they certainly didn't stop with that!

The reason they are unaware is because none of them have been murdered yet. It takes exactly that blunt of a signal,to make these fuckers understand that we know what they’re up to and we don’t approve. We haven’t given them that signal yet, that’s on us.

"In order to believe the polling is accurate you'd have to think the GOP was in such a bad position as to be staring down the barrel of a complete political realignment like after other major historical events" buddy that is *the most rational explanation* right now, I'd start polishing that resume

The Democratic Party had what looked like an unbreakable majority in the House until 1994. When they didn’t. People are angry and they want someone to fix “All of this”. I hope Dems have a plan to abate this craziness.

And unlike during Watergate, the GOP Congress did everything to facilitate the president’s corruption, reckless governance, and appropriation of their constitutional prerogatives. So, they really deserve to be drummed out of office.

The 90s GOP was looking to impeach Bill Clinton over a Whitewater land deal that, in the worst case scenario, would have been roughly the 1,000,000th most corrupt thing this administration has done in the past 2 years.

"Multigenerational national traumas" would be a better description of the past 10 years of US politics. Most R presidents benefit from the bounceback of D presidents but Trump's non-consecutive terms (plus crippling policies and Covid) negated that. He did worse than any president and he's reaping

But the media said the real generational national trauma was people being told they can't hang out with/worship racists, rapists and fascists [aka a great deal of their friends, employees and/or accomplices] anymore

Don’t forget the Supreme Court abandoning its core purpose by elevating an actual fucking king in time for our 250th celebration of independence from kings and doing for the dumbest, most viscous, most self-aggrandizing criminal in public life. A trifecta of moral, political, and social failure.

Also the million avoidable covid deaths, the gigantic sloppy pedophile coverup, the wildly uneven handling of Ukraine, the masked paramilitary with their own concentration camps It's actually really hard to name anything Republicans have done in the last decade that wasn't shitty or inept

I used to say "there's no make gas prices go up button" or "there's no make things more expensive button." Not only did this administration find those buttons, they smashed them as hard as they could while the country watched.

I've always said that the end of the Cold War was a win for capitalism and not for democracy. The US turned on itself and lost its collective mind.

The person should also polish their resume because the polls only need to be off by a little bit to have huge electoral consequences in a nation as polarized as ours so 🤷🏻‍♂️

I certainly hope they’re not off (again), but they could be, and I think we shouldn’t act so certain of the outcome, having learned our lesson in other elections. That said, I’m also not certain the polls aren’t just fine. Bake it into the forecasts and move on.

Big tell is where the money is going; with other polling misses in favor of Rs they were not triaging as hard nor dumping money into red strongholds desperately, which suggests as much as they pray for a polling miss, everything they see on the ground this time suggests Götterdämmerung for the GOP

I engage with people who bc something hasn’t happened before, think it can’t and won’t happen now. Whistling past the graveyard. There’s always a first for anything in history.

Leading up to this term they were very clear in their intention to make this traumatic to liberals, federal workers, immigrants, people living in cities, blue states, our trading partners, etc etc. They trauma'd so hard they trauma'd their own people.

"Whoa whoa whoa, you're telling me an uncontrolled pedophile cabal of thieves that are rounding up innocent people and raping them, starting wars, and bombing school kids in other countries is a big deal?" - the republican strategist

What realignment after 9/11 are they talking about? Bush narrowly won reelection in 2004, the GOP was annihilated in 2006, and then a black guy with the middle name Hussein won Indiana in 2008.

I would say launching a war to distract Americans from the President raping children and then that war driving up gas prices to unprecedented levels all while American Einsatzgruppen round up people and imprison/deport them to places unknown sounds like quite a Generational Trauma to me.

"Generational trauma that no one is aware of" = rich guys and party leadership, i.e. the aristocracy, are so completely divorced from the public they don't even understand the fear and hate they are facing.

Oh, I think a lot of us are quite aware of the generational national trauma we've been living through the last 11 years. But apparently the pollsters and mainstream media are just now starting to get some clues.

It is impossible to figure out why the people who lived through the booming economies of Clinton and Obama, who have watched all basic human necessities become priced at luxury auction prices, are upset with a kleptocracy that doubled the national debt exclusively by giving money to billionaires.

There are no new roads. No new bridges. No new factories. We've lost every ally. A cheeseburger is $8. Gas is $5. You have to be a multi-millionaire to buy a house or go to a hospital. Tap water is flammable. But we're 20 TRILLION DOLLARS poorer and the upper 1% is 20 TRILLION DOLLARS richer.

they don’t have to leave their offices their political slogans expressly promised trauma. they know it. vought said his goal was to put federal workers “in trauma” they were like “yeahhh trauma!” reaping: wtf?? this sucks?? one can only hope ritual suicide comes back into fashion

Nobody has ever demanded Americans pay as much attention to them as Trump. He intends to dominate every conversation, every feed, every meme. And he wants people around the world to know who he is too. That is unprecedented. In a screen-driven global culture, that's also pretty traumatic.

The national trauma is the number of Americans struggling with the cognitive dissonance of comparing the reality of their lives to the American Exceptionalism they were taught. The "American Dream" isn't what it used to be and people have noticed.

I’m convinced that there is also a large fraction of the population that believes in climate change and has bought into the lie that it is something we can’t address. I doubt it’s a conscious belief for most of them but walking around with that in your head, in any form, is gonna do a number on you.

As I've said before, Right-Wingers (almost all of the GOP at this point) believe that they live in another reality, and that if they just keep repeating the same old same old, it will become reality everywhere else.

Why yes, these are unprecedented times. YOUR party made sure of that. Bozos.

Oh..we’re definitely at “generational national trauma”. In my entire lifetime..I’m in my mid-60’s..this country has never been so damn awful and screwed up…solely at the feet of Trump and his MAGA GOP.
