a weird set of people who only exist online are people who celebrate the defeat of global fascism in every other country and are then horrified and appalled at the idea that they should also be expected to vote for their domestic opponent of global fascism if some of their stances are Problematic

A newspaper promising the first images of pedestrianised Oxford Street used a single screenshot from a traffic camera. Now, why didn't I think of that when I spent two cold hours on Oxford Street last night? www.ianvisits.co.uk/articles/las...

Great film. Amazing performance. It’s worth watching, and it’s free!

Whatever happens in Brazil, I don’t understand why people will support politicians who didn’t respect the result of the last election (or in this case, his son). You wouldn’t have thought that “attempted coups should be disqualifying” would be controversial but here we are.

This graph shows the efficacy of austerity too. The poorest in society went through all that, our state is falling apart and it didn’t even achieve anything of what the stated intent was.

This is just dreadful stuff from Kuenssberg: "What has the government done to cut the national debt?" ONS: "Public sector net debt was provisionally estimated at 94.0% of GDP, 0.7 percentage points lower than a year earlier"

if you ever happen to see someone post a joke you don't understand or discuss a subject you aren't familiar with, you are well within your right to complain, and perhaps even scold them if necessary. you are their customer and you have rights

Yes, why do people choose to stay in countries that are (broadly) well run, look after their citizens, and where there aren’t any wars? It’s a mystery for the ages.

Trump: "Why do we always have to take people from shit house countries? We can't we take people from Norway and Sweden and Denmark? By the way, Denmark gave us Greenland ... what do you take, Venezuela or Greenland? We got them both!"

There’s lots wrong with the film Troy. More than I could fit in to a tweet, but central to it is how utterly abysmal Brad Pitt’s acting is.

I guess we’re going to have to say goodbye to this era of governments chosen by highly educated women. Examples are everywhere, I’m sure, but none immediately leap to mind.

“Palantir cofounder and CEO Alex Karp states ‘AI will undermine the influence of highly educated, often female voters and give it to working class men. We have feminine energy running our cities and our courts,’ he complained.”

If he’d been asked which of these animals is a giraffe, he’d have been fine.

😳 WOMAN REPORTER: Do sexual abuse allegations mean nothing to you, sir? TRUMP: Wait. Wait! Wait wait wait. Slow down. Who are you with? REPORTER: NBC, sir. But they are very serious sex abuse allegations TRUMP: Quiet! Isn't she a fresh person? You're a horrible little reporter, aren't you?

University of Nottingham, right now, is cutting 560 jobs. Do we need to rebrand universities as very large, very clean, land-based oil rigs to get government support?

Leo Hickman@leohickman.carbonbrief.org

From the govt's press release: "The developer estimates that Jackdaw will create 27 new direct jobs and safeguard 273 existing jobs that would otherwise be lost." Odd that so much is made about this being good for jobs. Your nearest out-of-town supermarket likely generates more jobs.

I guess previous presidents spent a lot more time doing the bits of the job the public don’t see. Because besides everything else awful about him this is an absurd way for a president to spend his extremely scarce time.

Trump takes two questions and then abruptly wraps up the event, which was supposed to be about "cybercrime" but in reality was just an opportunity for Trump's cronies to publicly praise him and kiss his ass

This is disgusting. But even though this is presumably what Trump wanted to happen, seems inevitable (and indeed desirable) that control over where Starlink operates will be taken over by the US government. Absolutely insane that Musk could make this decision privately.

For money stolen by crooked politicians, even with him bringing up the average, trillions is ridiculously high. You might get to a few trillion by including basically all government fraud for decades but just crooked politicians, absolutely not.

What does Kemi Badenoch think the level of immigration should be? Is everybody in the media & politics going to act surprised when the year to June 2026 statistic (on Nov 26th) falls below net 100k for first time this century Best estimate of net migration *now* (4th Q 2026) is zero, or negative

Belatedly watching Obsession. It’s really good, excellent acting. Very impressive debut. I wouldn’t mind if the house was slightly more brightly lit though.

A thing that might be a lifesaver more often would be “doors you can open easily in an emergency”. In this situation I’d be inclined to use the brakes.

To do that across a whole sector, to the extent it’s affecting the outcomes of elections is just amazing. These must be the most effective political operators on earth.
