I feel like that's the biggest issue in our industry and AI has just multiplied that tenfold. Software that improves people's lives is created with care. I feel like we're teaching a generation of developers that it's totally normal for stuff to be broken all the time. Not sure how to solve this.

Almost 20 days after launch, the new npmjs dark mode is still utterly broken. I celebrated when they released it. It's great to see npm working on new features. The web needs MS to invest in the registry. But this isn't the way. They should remove dark mode until they have the time to do it right.

The React Compiler rust port is now up as an in-progress PR at github.com/facebook/rea... - more to come as we test and polish.

github.com[compiler] WIP port of React Compiler to Rust by josephsavona · Pull Request #36173 · facebook/reactThis is an experimental, work-in-progress port of React Compiler to Rust. We’re pretty close to having an initial Rust port of React Compiler. My approach was to iterate on the plan document (write it manually, have the agent expand, edit, repeat). Then try to run it, see what goes wrong, revert back to the plan, tweak the plan, repeat.

I don't think I've ever talked on Bluesky about why I hate the Foo Fighters and Dave Grohl. Don't read any further unless you're prepared for uncomfortable truths about the "Nicest Guy in Rock", and his very substantial body count & subsequent cover-up.

With all the excitement of (Same-Document) View Transitions (and more VT features) becoming Baseline Newly available (yay! 🎉), one might overlook the inclusion of the moveBefore() method. This method is a pretty big deal as it allows you to move elements around the DOM while preserving their state.

brm.usMove elements around the DOM while preserving their state with moveBeforeUnlike the classic way of moving a node by removing+reinserting it, the moveBefore method preserves the element’s state!

Good post by @joehellerstein.bsky.social on the theoretical foundations behind CRDTs. Automerge has exactly the layered structure he describes (commutative ops on top of a partially ordered log semilattice). Looking forward to the rest of the series jhellerstein.github.io/blog/crdt-tu...

In 2016 I started this big paper collage (6x6 ft, all torn/cut by hand) that quickly devolved into a chaotic/grotesque portrait of Donald J. Trump as President of the United States I stopped working on it in 2021, nearly a year after J6 This🧵is about the ideas, sources, & references that inform it

Today, we’re announcing the preview release of ty, an extremely fast type checker and language server for Python, written in Rust. In early testing, it's 10x, 50x, even 100x faster than existing type checkers. (We've seen >600x speed-ups over Mypy in some real-world projects.)

Okay so imagine this, you have no opinions, you have no skills, you have no wants or desires, you are a smooth orb of nothing and our subscription service helps make sure you still cast a shadow that resembles a human being. Sounds sick right?

As promised, blog post is up! This includes a list of projects (with as many citations as I could find!), as well as a bit of a look at the community numbers that might hint at how many folks are active these days. Happy to add more if folks know of others. onevariable.com/blog/embedde...

🎉 I've bumped github.com/facet-rs/facet from "highly experimental" to just "experimental" — it has a pretty well-designed set of types, the derive macro is quite capable already, the JSON read+write crates are iterative (!!), go play with it!

my new AI powered lamp is trained on millions of lamp interactions so it understands that 50% of chain pulls are to turn it on and the other 50% are to turn it off. and honestly, it's a little spooky how it knows exactly what i want almost half of the time

Here's a fun Sunday puzzle for data minded people out there: * COBS is a bit-stuffing technique, it changes the bitstream when encoding * CRC is designed to defend against corruptions of the EXACT bit pattern on the wire If I want to frame my messages with COBS, how do I also CRC them?

i don't understand how to teach making things simple. it's like people have this built-in resistance to it, i have no idea how to get underneath that. i just paired with someone on something and we deleted probably about 75% of the code and then it was good. why is everything like this
