One widely loathed, ketamine-addicted, white-supremacist billionaire can single-handedly keep a failing political party afloat, through the brute force of money. Excellent system we've set up here.

Please know that this is one of my few legitimate areas of actual, high-level professional expertise: Kicking the healthiest people off of a health insurance program will bankrupt it. Not 'could;' not 'might,' not 'probably," but absolutely will, with mathematical certainty.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Dr Oz says the Trump administration will kick more than a million people off health insurance because some of them have "never filed a claim"

This story and the story of the Collins corruption allegations broke the same day, and in one instance the administration is alleging fraud to remove access to healthcare, and in the other they are stopping anti-corruption investigations of political allies.

It’s surreal to see federal officials take a victory lap today for cancelling hundreds of thousands of marketplace enrollments, while massive health coverage losses are underway. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/22/h...

NYT has now independently corroborated all the major allegations against Susan Collins in the ProPublica report, including that investigators were prepared to move against her and then Trump intervened to shut it down. This put Trump in a position of exceptional and extortionate leverage over her.

From the class I teach on political corruption analysis: “Opportunistic and systemic corruption are related but distinct… Systemic corruption functions via networks of ongoing transactional relationships. Key links are usually based primarily on financial, service, and threat transactions…”

emptywheel@emptywheel.bsky.social

This is one of the reasons I keep thinking of corruption as a process. Once you’ve tainted them, they’re captive.

This is not your grandparents GOP. They have set up concentration camps. They want to invade Canada and Greenland. They have invaded Venezuela. They're engaged in market manipulation and all other sorts of corruption. They tore down the East Wing of the White House.

This was Biden's ultimate failure. The inability to see that people weren't voting for Biden because they especially liked Biden. It was because they hated Trump. Now, Democrats are about to make the same mistake again. They think votes for them validate their inaction and their corporatism.

Oliver Willis@owillis.bsky.social

Democrats are well positioned to inherit power thanks to disgust with Trump, but ultimately none of this is about what Dems did in response to Trump. They mostly capitulated and are benefiting from being the other party in a two party system, I don’t have any positive expectations for them.

The AI industry wants you to say "the AI just did that thing on its own!" Like, United Health's AI that's denying a shitload of claims with a 90% error rate? They wanted you to think it's just the AI.

In the progressive era, muckrakers took down various powerful entities without ever having access, it can be done! Having investigated companies that won’t talk to me I can confidently say it is very possible to report on people who don’t invite you to their press conferences. This is not to say…🧵

If you’re going to rename the DoD the Department of War, and rename the SoD the Secretary of War, and then start an unnecessary war, you’ve opened yourself up to mockery when you lose that war.

I’ve been critical of the SPLC lately but this indictment feels like a stunt. It targets one of the primary enemies of their shared cinematic universe at a time when MAGA is divided over the war. Me for MSNOW: www.ms.now/opinion/sout...

According to the WSJ, Hegseth abruptly fired the Navy Secretary in the middle of a crucial wartime naval blockade because he was jelly of his closeness with Trump. Lunch debt shouldn't exist, first of all. But second of all, *turning down funds* and *incurring legal fees to take the families to court* really makes clear that the real concern is not actually about the food being paid for. It's just punishing poor families
