Unfortunately, it’s not a right that Canada extends to First Nations and Indigenous folks from the US, this is because the Jay Treaty was signed between the GB and the US and as such Canadian courts have held that it was not implemented into Canadian law.

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social

It is an *extremely* little know rule that certain Canadian First Nations people can freely cross the border both ways and live in the US if they feel like it, without having to go through any normal immigration processes.

I've been reporting on federal politics since 2008. My entire career I've listened to politicians talk about using carbon capture to cut industrial emissions. Carbon capture removed 68 million tonnes over a 24-year period. The oilsands added much more, 92 million tonnes, over a single year, 2024.

If you're a tourist from out of state, you don't have to register your car, but you have to register your bike. I don't plan on ever going to New Jersey but holy cripes, this dumbass idea is probably going to spread.

That’s what small government means, after all:the consolidation of wealth and power in the hands of those who already have those things”

Doctorow has been arguing for this for a year, and while I don't agree with everything Doctorow says, this one is a very simple win. If you've ever thought about right to repair, this is step one to getting it back.

Over the past month, New York has welcomed the world. From neighborhood watch parties to the stadium, we’ve celebrated the communities that make our city the global capital of the beautiful game. Today, we close out a historic World Cup, proud of how New Yorkers showed up every step of the way.

My favorite way to put this, as someone who studied Classical History in actual college (not just on Twitter): If you told an ancient Roman or Athenian that his culture had "more in common" with a German or Briton than with an Egyptian or Ethiopian, he'd punch you in the throat.

Ever hear this saying? "It's not the fire that damages the house, it's the fire department putting it out." Simply, if the fire is small enough, the fire department will put so much water on it that the water damage will exceed the damage caused by the fire up until the point it was extinguished.
