Inspired by one of @vegeta897.bsky.social recent posts about CSG, I tried to implement some in Eternitubes 3D. As a result the tubes can be missing parts now... #screensaver #creativecoding #indiedev #retro #retrocomputing #gamedev #indiegame #3dArt #demoscene #procgen #mathart #abstractart

@brettcodes.bsky.social's forum has been a wonderful place to be when I start getting that hopeless feeling in other online spaces. I wanted to share this comment I saw which responds to the "it's here to stay" argument that people treat as an axiom. humancrafted.discourse.group/t/feeling-li...

Mayor May Knott is 30% off during the Steam Autumn Sale! It's a creepy-cozy 3D adventure game about solving puzzles, rebuilding a haunted ghost town, meeting weird creatures, and listening to ridiculous music! Perfect for Halloweens! store.steampowered.com/app/2377450?... #indiedev #indiegames

I frequently see "AI" boosters implying that LLMs are simply an innate and superior part of coding now, inescapable, and that literally all programmers agree with them. And, well. That, too, is a form of propaganda
I wrote a little piece about the ongoing battle for the soul of software as a craft, where we've been, and where I hope we're going

there's a really nice little AI-booster-free community sprouting up at humancrafted.dev/forum to talk about the joys of coding by hand & how to navigate this current moment come help make this ad-free discussion-centric hangout zone a wonderful place!

...And suddenly it's #screenshotsaturday again! Here's another colorful set of tubes from Eternitubes 3D, freshly created a couple of minutes ago. If you're interested: store.steampowered.com/app/4979880 #screensaver #creativecoding #indiedev #retro #gamedev #indiegame #digitalart #3Dart #mathart

@flippbyte.bsky.social The variety of tube shapes in this is wonderful. This is my favorite one so far (plus the color and lighting!) (from Eternitubes 3D on steam)
I love niche passion projects like this. store.steampowered.com/app/4979880/... Just someone who really loves tubes hand-writing this in C++ with no engine. Of course I'm gonna throw a couple bucks at it.

For maybe the first time, I feel really good about of the number of unfinished game prototypes in my github. The realization of "what am i making here" is a harsh moment but a valuable filter, and AI just hops right over it.
Like, whatever, Outlier could have been hand coded and still have been just as broken of a concept. But having to actually take a, like, week to put it together by hand would have maybe involved thinking twice about the whole “why would someone play this more than once or twice?” problem.

one of the things I like about being a game programmer is you have to make a million little decisions how does A talk to B? how do the physics behave here? how many times per second does the entire world get destroyed and rebuilt? AI takes away these decisions. It makes coding less intentional

there used to be a strong correlation between seeing neat things online, and the person who made it: 1. is very knowledgeable and passionate about it 2. put love and care into it 3. is getting recognition for it but that trust is now gone, the grifters skipped to step 3, the slop ghouls have won

I'm not being very productive, which could be due to sleep or thyroid. But what I can do is dick around on social media. So let's share again the starter packs I made of game devs who refuse to use gen AI in any capacity. Here you go: go.bsky.app/6DRdowf go.bsky.app/AS5R4p7 go.bsky.app/7K7JDCJ

New on the Secret Area: I hate AI vibe coded game projects. Terrible machine translations! Barely functional recompilations! It's a hot mess, y'all. Shares and comments appreciated, as always. asecretarea.com/2026/08/10/a...

My favorite challenges in coding have come from making games. I love going in head-first, even when I know it's something that has surely been written about plenty, and even when I know I'll come up with a pattern that already exists. Any use of AI means diminishing that which I enjoy so much.
Seeing people talk about genAI use in video games and being like "Well it's fine if it's just coding" No, absolutely not. You do not encroach upon my field and decide it's okay just because you think it's less artistic somehow. Video game code is art too. Way more than it's science, even.
