Full admission: I did not think about the unlockable "seasonal change" in Super Mario World as being Halloween-themed until recently. It is a Halloween thing... isn't it?
I found two previously unknown cheat codes for *Chicago Syndicate*, the *Eternal Champions* spinoff starring 1920s ex-gangster Larcen Tyler.
On activates a totally new mode that lets you play as the boss characters!

You can read about the ending of Gremlins 2: The New Batch, and other 1990 NES games, in @vgmuseum.bsky.social's book, "NES Endings Compendium - Vol. 2: 1990", which I reviewed here:

Halloween post #25:
Speaking of Castlevania tricks, here's one for Super Castlevania IV (Super NES).
Jump down before the stairs that lead to Dracula to find invisible platforms, and down here, power-ups will rain on you, so you'll be more ready for the final confrontation!
VGMaps.com just received maps of a classic DOS game, "The Amazing Spider-Man", thanks to TimbreWulf!

This game is memorable for having a health meter that shows Spidey turning skeletal from his toes up to his scalp as he takes damage!
I wrote about why we had so many urban legends trying to explain who Justin Bailey was. At first, I wondered if it was the wrong town for the week before Halloween, but as I got philosophical, I realized this is one of the scariest things I've ever written.
Star Wars: Dark Forces, a mid-90s FPS set in the Star Wars universe, allowing players to explore Star Wars environments firsthand, and also maybe shoot some Stormtroopers. www.hardcoregaming101.net/star-wars-da...
I'm sure there are still a lot of people out there that don't know we're working on a weird point and click adventure with deduction mechanics that owes as much to What Remains of Edith Finch as to Return of he Obra Dinn (but probably easier 😅)
So, wishlist and make some noise!
New Game Boy Color Endings www.vgmuseum.com/end/gbc
Bomberman Max: Red Challenger
Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine
MIB²
Pitfall: Beyond the Jungle
Tiny Toon Adventures: Dizzy's Candy Quest
We broke the 8,000 endings mark. Thanks to everyone that has contributed!
Hey @xbuttonshow.bsky.social, when are you going to starting taking listeners questions? Hopefully on these podcasts you read more of them.
Come up with some game/trivia episodes too (akin to GameScoop's 20 Qs). Those are always fun.
Last month we lost our jobs. This month we made new ones.
Introducing X BUTTON: an independent gaming network from three ex-IGN employees. A new weekly Nintendo podcast! A new weekly video game podcast! And that’s just the start, but we can’t do it without your help! www.patreon.com/cw/XButtonShow
Here's a new code for *Phantasm*, the Japanese Saturn port of *Phantasmagoria*:
- Insert disc 7
- Press A C Z X B Y
You'll get a new "Special movie" menu with a music video from heath, a making-of documentary, and a sizzle reel for race queen Fumika Suzuki.

With the NES now 41 years old, are there any NES games you still haven't finished yet?
Also, check out my review of @vgmuseum.bsky.social's "NES Endings Compendium - Vol. 2: 1990":

Shout out to Kirkland for his years-long quest to scan every single game manual. His site is one of those places where every other site steals manual scans from (usually without giving credit).

I'm working on that list of game boy color games with link (and other peripherals) support. It's been a month and I'm up to the letter "D".
At this rate I guess I'll be done by 2027.
Way too many Japanese RPGs with trading functionalities. The Pokémon effect.
Halloween post #15:
Another NES game with "MM" in its title...
Have you played Maniac Mansion?
Have you used Razor or Syd to microwave Weird Ed's hamster?
(Not possible in the European release.)
Have you given the remains to Weird Ed?
*DO NOT MICROWAVE LIVE ANIMALS IN REAL LIFE*
Amazon has been discounting various HG101 books by about 20% over the past few days, so you can grab Metal Gear/Silent Hill and Other Konami Classics for $23.50 link.amazon/B0ctFUJCv
New cover reveal! Here's the front illustration for our next book, The Guide to Mascot Platformers Vol. 1, by @bimshwel.bsky.social! Try to see if you can figure out all of these weird little dudes!

The original artwork for the game *Stormlord* has nudity. It's somewhat tasteful, artistic nudity, but it was censored in the 1991 Genesis port from RazorSoft and Punk Development.
...or was it?
I found a cheat code that restores the original, NSFW artwork:

Not saying the US flyer is unhinged drivel but it does appear to have the world's buffest man with the world's skinniest wrists going topless in a pair of snorkeling goggles with his hair in twin tails next to a submarine that's parked in a ditch that's been dug into the middle of the road🤔😉
It's motorbike shooting action this week as Seta / Taito 1987 game Thundercade / 特殊部隊U.A.G comes to Arcade Archives
It's being promoted as a Seta title so does this mean more Seta's on the way?

Anyone remember how exciting it was as a kid to wake up super early on a Saturday morning to play?
One time, after weeks/months of playing Castlevania, Zelda and Jackal over and over, I managed to beat them all in one magical care-free morning.
Halloween post #12:
Speaking of Ghosts 'N Goblins, you can get its classic music in Mega Man 7's Shade Man stage by holding down the B button when selecting him.
With the help of @west-mansion.bsky.social, I have upgraded the standard review layout for Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti to a custom two-page spread! Same review content, FAR better presentation.
This upgraded review will go into Beyond the NES when it goes into print later this month!
I took a look at the Genesis version of *Shaq Fu* game and found a previously-unreported cheat code that lets you instantly win (or lose) matches. Enabling it involves altering sound options, entering a button sequence, and disconnecting one of the controllers.

I have. Back in the 90s I imported Final Fantasy 5 & Seiken Densetsu 3 through an adult friend who had a credit card (back when CCs were not given out to anyone).
Played FF5 thanks to that famous translation faq on Gamefaqs, but had to play Seiken blind.
This week I put my money where my mouth is and created a video about Super Xevious for Famicom. You know how Xevious is a profoundly influential and deeply beloved part of the Famicom's history? This official Namco-commissioned sequel is, like, the opposite:

It's #WishlistWednesday. Wishlisting is free, and it's the single biggest lever I have as an indie dev with no marketing budget. If you love scifi noir games, you know what to do!
