My favorite color for years was cobalt blue, and I still appreciate that, but somewhere in the last decade I started leaning more into the green palette and I wondered how common it was to have preferences that basic just…change.

I would respectfully request that companies stop asking me to fill out a survey for every stupid thing. It was an oil change, a flu shot, a utility bill. It was a *normal everyday transaction* Sending 5 reminder emails will not make me more likely to respond, or recommend your product.

I love spiders. My son? Not so much. He’s so creeped out he has license to remove joros from around the house since they make Halloween-level webs. He saw a giant web and went to remove it, but came back saying it was a golden orb weaver. Such a good kid, I’d never have known if he weren’t honest.

what if we taxed billionaires and injected the money back into the economy by giving it to people to spend on goods and services

Tressie McMillan Cottom@tressiemcphd.bsky.social

The third piece I’ve read in as many days “concerned” that Americans are ”sitting on capital” that needs to be “freed up”. www.theatlantic.com/economy/2026...

My husband and I watched the hunger games movie. Is it bad that I spent the whole thing wondering about their economy, and why the betting companies would be suing the game for changing rules, and whether each game used the same competition area or if it was a different biome each time…?

The next Democratic president needs to campaign with a comprehensive plan of how to specifically target and ruin the finances of the 10 largest Republican donors.

Elon Musk’s PAC is running anti-lgbtq+ midterm ads on X. Not surprising but incredibly unsubtle

the year is 2030 and i no longer consume anything that isn't personalized to me. every game, every book, every movie extends to the limits of my own imagination and no further. i haven't been surprised in five years. i cry softly, in bewilderment, if i see a word i don't know

maybe i'm old fashion but the coolest thing about video games is being taken to new worlds that i hadn't thought up and experiencing something exciting that the artists behind the game want to show me

Another driver considerately let me know I was driving dangerously fast by riding my bumper and flashing their brights repeatedly. In respect for their care for my health and safety I slowed to 2 miles under the speed limit.

imagine if the WH press corp had banded together 18 fucking months ago

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

LMFAO -- Trump is holding an event at the White House right now but there's no audio because the press pool isn't there. The Newsmax host notes that this is an example of Trump's attacks on the press "backfiring just a little bit"

We had a Trash Emergency in that a bag burst contaminating the container. So we had to clean out nastiness that included maggots or be faced with stench every time we used the bin. In unrelated news, I support starting salaries of 150k for sanitation workers who have to deal with this on the daily.

National security decision-making has a longer time horizon. It would be stupid for Canada, Europe, South Korea, etc. to act now based on assuming the US will be a reliable in a decade. We have shown that we are not. Many Americans still don’t appreciate how profound of a change that is.

My 15-y-o just discovered the joy of yogurt mixed with jam and chia seeds. I made some for myself for tomorrow’s breakfast, then he discovered it in the fridge and walked up with the big puppy eyes. “Mom, what is this?” So he ate mine, and now I’m going to have to buy so much yogurt.

A not fun fact about disability that nondisabled people seem to be unable to perceive: Disabled people are more likely to live in poverty and less likely to be able to afford preventative care or routine treatments for conditions that start small and snowball.

Mountain lions are making American roads safer by frightening away deer. On Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, where cougars were most active, deer-vehicle collisions fell 76%. Deer kill up to 440 Americans a year; cougars have killed 29 Americans since 1868. buff.ly/9bDfEKZ #ShareGoodNewsToo

The "offense" committed by Haitians is that they were here legally, working jobs, completing degrees, and so forth, and then the administration abruptly revoked their status, rendering their presence illegal. They have literally been TRANSFORMED into illegal immigrants by the admin's own policies.

To paraphrase the words of Our Lord: “I give you the money you give me the donut. End of transaction. We do not need to bring metrics and star ratings into it.”

There was a time when a person could employ a service or engage in a transaction and would not be asked once—much less hounded—for a rating and feedback thereafter. This I would like The Children to know.

It is so infuriating that we could mostly have a nice little life with work that’s enough to support it, healthcare that doesn’t go away if we change jobs, community resources that are well funded, and legally enforced civil rights. But Joe and Ted’s Rich Money Leaderboard War is more important.

So because money is more important than lives, trees are cut down and horses are sent to slaughter and people scheduled half an hour less than full time, who then have to take roommates for overpriced apartments, eat the cheapest food, and become crippled by preventable or treatable conditions.

Bill lapping Ted on the Money Leaderboard is so much more important than every other person still having access to bees, Bill will set up a greenhouse and pay workers to hand pollinate tomatoes while everyone else eats Soylent Green, so he can get $0.01 ahead of Ted by poisoning wolves.

Does anyone recall why we're in this current trade war with Canada? I believe it began because Trump stroked out and said something about "51st state." However, being American right now is just ingesting a firehose of humiliation so I really can't keep track of it all.

Had one of those lovely little slips of the tongue that shows more than you want. There’s a restaurant called Mama’s Boy that I was suggesting for lunch, and instead of “Mama” I used our son’s name. Sigh.

It genuinely pains me whenever there are widespread food recalls. These are plants and animals that were grown for food, that lived their lives to be food or make fruit or express milk etc so we could eat, and all that effort is wasted.

The push for Harry Potter the TV show is going to be completely enormous—they're debuting it on fucking Christmas—and it is the responsibility of TV critics to contextualize this as rewarding the world's most transphobic billionaire (which is saying something) in everything we write about it.

Getting blocked for pointing out that Sundown towns were real, that the movie The Purge even used Sundown town sirens, and that the premise of the Purge is dystopian horror for white people, but echoes reality for Black people.🤷🏿‍♂️ I'm OK with the block.

Mekka Okereke@mekka.mekka-tech.com

Except... The Purge was not an absurd premise? It was real, and really happened. The real life version of the purge wasn't one night a year. It was every single night. Again, a lot of dystopian horror is just "What if someone treated us the way we treated Black people?"

A lot of things are about to get a lot more expensive

Dale @dalejohn.bsky.social

The USDA is projecting the wheat harvest to be cut by almost half in the US. The state of Kansas is the largest producer of wheat and it is projected to harvest 44% less than from 2025. The American Farm Bureau sees a continued increase of Chapter 12 bankruptcies from 2025 as well.

This kind of dystopian rage fuel is why I am going to keep my 2012 Corolla, whose only screen is the LED for the clock, until it’s eligible for a vintage car license plate.

I don’t know who needs to hear this… but all those art supplies sitting unused in your totes? They’re made to be used. Fuck them up. Get them dirty. Use the markers til the ink is dry. Use all the super glue. Paint til your paint is gone. MAKE. ART. The world needs it now more than ever. #art
