In the Republican Party, this is your ticket to success. Not policy achievements. Not improving people’s lives. It’s who can kiss Trump’s ass in the most shameless way possible. His cabinet is a perfect example, where they do it every single day. That’s why they have their jobs.

The most remarkable thing is that Jan Crawford, chief legal correspondent for CBS News, thought that El-Sayed explaining the importance of freedom of religion in the Constitution *proved Tommy's point*, which was that El-Sayed is a terrorist sympathizer. Because he believes in THE CONSTITUTION

Qasim Rashid, Esq.@qasimrashid.com

Jan is a chief CBS reporter. She tweeted this about Tommy, the Republican operative accusing Abdul El-Sayed of terrorism, then deleted it. Zero questions about Tommy declaring he wants the Bible to supersede the Constitution. We need independent media. Join: www.qasimrashid.com/subscribe

Ossoff: "The crisis we must meet is deeper than this presidency. Trump's rise is proof that business as usual has failed, that our politics, sickened by corruption, is failing the American public and compromising our national integrity. And that the hour is late to fix what's broken."

Waterside Character reposted

FWIW, I refer to this as "closing the hardball gap." It's the idea that asymmetric adherence to norms is itself destablizing, and that norm-breaking can/should be done in democracy's defense. This is a bit dated but it gets at the basic point:

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

will try to answer these in a piece next week but for now i will say that part of the *point* of court expansion, in my mind, is to create a disequilibrium — a potential race to the bottom — that will force a truce.

Ossoff: "I think Pete Hegseth is frankly a deeply unwell person who seems to relish this kind of brutality all the while he's running a department that is falling into chaos. The guy cannot run the military competently and is spending his time with this kind of obscene medieval spectacle."

Hegseth also removed the olive branches, a traditional symbol of wishing peace, from the Department of Defense seal. This, in addition to changing the name to "The Department of War," shows the dangerous belligerency that comes from appointing a frat bro who values testosterone over statesmanship.

FFS… Is it really an accident anymore at this point?

The corrupt gangsters running this government violate the law daily and use government funds for partisan politics to bribe voters in violation of the law. Trump has been emboldened by a rogue Supreme Court which has given him immunity and taken a blowtorch to the Constitution.

As an American political historian, I can confirm that this Congress has been "almost unmatched in history" in several categories -- sad abdication of its war powers, craven surrender of the power of the purse, weird refusal to conduct meaningful oversight, and an utter failure to pass actual laws.

Mike Johnson claims that the current Congress is "probably in the top three or four of all time" and is "almost unmatched in history" 🙃

Toddler tirade incoming.

The Federal Reserve raised its benchmark interest rate Wednesday for the first time since 2023 in an effort to quell stubbornly high inflation, a move that could spur a sharp response from the White House. https://to.pbs.org/4yEtPKf

USPS is reportedly pushing ahead with untested technology to carry out Trump’s attack on mail-in voting. The plan, if it’s allowed to go forward, could completely “derail” the midterms, according to a whistleblower. Trump will stop at nothing to cheat his way to victory.

Yet another issue where every single person who touched it needs to end up in jail for us to have any semblance of the rule of law. You cannot have a functional democracy where the government creates a plan to literally throw away votes from places that don't support the incumbent party.

This is pretty fucking wild. I had assumed in a worst case scenario he would target blue zip codes and toss ballots based on technicalities but this is even worse than I imagined.

That's the whole Republican worldview (apart from the racism) right there, and they apply it to everything from Medicaid to voting.

It's not until he says the magic words, that he fears losing control, that it fully clicks. It's not that he believes philanthropy is bad, it's that the risk of someone receiving his money who he doesn't approve of is a bigger problem than the risk that his money helps no one. That speaks volumes.

Can't believe these Ivory Tower academics left merely because the American government decided it should arbitrarily revoke research funding and visas, dictate what scholars publish & teach, and send students & assistants to concentration camps.

As @brianbeutler.bsky.social argued, the next Democratic president should send bulldozers to the Supreme Court and tell them they have 15 minutes to decide if the Unitary Executive Theory is real.

Pretty brilliant how Trump is taking the Kennedy Center hostage, says he'll tear it down if he can't put his name on it www.usatoday.com/story/news/p... As Trump says, no one has ever seen anything like it before.

I unpacked Supreme Court mail-in ballot ruling @outfrontcnn.bsky.social ⤵️ - The Executive Order is still blocked under a totally separate court order. - States should win quick victories now that USPS has "final rule" (SCOTUS simply held it's premature before that final rule issues). Explanation:

Americans hear "51st state" as Trump trolling. Canadians hear it as an existential threat to their sovereignty. That gap in perception is why Carney can't afford to look conciliatory, even if the economics of retaliation don't add up. This isn't just a trade war anymore.

The President has decided that in order to make ground beef cheaper, he will cut tariffs on ground beef. And I'm wondering if he could generalize from this one product to other products, and perhaps concede that tariffs raise prices on American consumers.

A little thread on Trump's CRYPTO ventures because I don't think ppl are seeing how totally corruptive it is to the system. Let's start w this. When investors dump millions into Trump’s crypto ventures, what are they actually paying for? It has no intrinsic value.
