HOW ARE YOU FEELING? features WORLDS APART: A CONVERSATION ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH, which is the first ever, internationally available *comic* that I've co-created (instead of a prose/comics hybrid, that is). [1/3] waynereewrites.com/how-are-you-...
It was a Jean-Claude Van Damme movie. BLOODSPORT, I think. My dad and uncle brought me to the neighbourhood cinema and I sat on the arm rest for most of it, just so I could see the screen. Yes, I was way too young for BLOODSPORT, but censorship was way stricter in Singapore back then.
First film you saw at the cinema. The real first one, not the pretend one you tell people!
Mine: The Empire Strikes Back, 1980, Wigan. We were near the front and I can still remember how massive the AT-ATs looked, looming over us out of the snow :)
Film, year, where, and whatever stuck with you.
Even if this were viable as a concept (that there's an afterlife; that it allows conversations with others; that enslavers are going the same place as you), who cares? Oh, are you mad at me, Ben Franklin? Tough shit.

Researching for TALES FROM INCREDIBLE TALES is way more difficult than it was during our first season, just a few years ago—and let me tell you, trying to find reliable sources for information about Southeast Asian folklore in English wasn't exactly the easiest to begin with.
i know enshittification discourse is getting boring, but 'has nobody published on this topic or is google scholar just fucked' is a really annoying part of a research process these days
I'm gonna be using this week to rest, clean up the flat, and write a bit. I'll be off Bluesky until next week maybe (or even longer), though I'll still be on Instagram to push TALES FROM INCREDIBLE TALES episodes.
In the meantime, here's a video of myself, @nadiadaeng.bsky.social, and my cousins having fun and being silly at one of our other cousins' wedding over the weekend.
Been a while since I posted this, so once again, if you can afford to do so and are even slightly inclined, please support my work by buying my books. Every one of them is some combination of interesting, informative, heartfelt, weird, and fun—and they all look amazing.
[Upcoming book] Syd Mead Ultimo (March 2027)
"Ultimo brings together a selection of never-before-seen works produced from 1996 until the designer’s death in 2019, including visionary personal projects, contributions to science-fiction landmarks such as Blade Runner 2049, and polished..." 🔽
People are gravitating towards the 'Nicolas Cage is a stand-up guy, fighting his corner against AI creative overeach' and that's great and how it should be, fine. But not enough is being made that a studio has AI waivers on standby for talent, in front and behind the camera, that you HAVE to sign.
Before Superman was ever the Man of Steel or the Man of Tomorrow...
...he was the CHAMPION OF THE OPPRESSED.
A moniker I love and wish got used more with the character!
I had to leave the dancefloor of my cousin's wedding tonight because my eighty-year-old mother was twerking to Flo Rida's "Low" and I am not on enough meds to deal with that. (@nadiadaeng.bsky.social is *still* laughing her ass off.)
Wild watching Singaporeans be totally cool with the death penalty, but not being cool with public executions. Almost as if they don't want to see people executed by the state as human beings.
He's a good egg, that Jock, and this continues the slighting of Varley ass critical component of TDKR - it's one reason why I couldn't support and would never buy TDKR: Noir when it came out. That book doesn't have the impact or depth without Lynn Varley's colours. I know they're divorced but FFS.
A pretty good Harvey Awards tonight, but the Batman-centric Hall Of Fame awards were greatly marred by their omission of the third key creator of The Dark Knight Returns, the legendary Lynn Varley. (Props to @jockbsky.bsky.social for being the only speaker of the night to say her name.)
What she specifically said in my presence was that something "smells of the translator" and the usage of an olfactory metaphor is quite a choice—it's usually a tool of class paranoia. It's par for the course she'd consider genre to be something "lowly" to transcend. People really think like this!
Damion Searls somewhere is rolling his eyes at me and going, "LET IT GO, ANTON" but I have a point to make!
Genre and translation are both deserving of derision to people like Lydia Millet (which was where I took this discourse), which is an interesting touchpoint between these two literatures.
First look at Mike Flanagan's ‘THE EXORCIST’ film, starring Scarlett Johansson, Chiwetel Ejiofor & John Leguizamo.
The film follows a detective who watches the execution of a serial killer - only for his murder spree to continue in demonic ways.
In theaters on March 12, 2027.

I was tempted to pirate HP, curiosity and all that. But @jessiegender.bsky.social is right - think of the amount of times HBO commented on GOT leaks and downloads, just as an example.
They DO track these things, and even that drives interest.
Let this show die.
Trans people deserve better.
A Hulk family reunion at the #HandsOffOurVote event last night shortly before @markruffalo.bsky.social & @gregpak.net both turned green and smashed up authoritarianism.
