Oh wow. Yeah Netflix is so activating their break clause

Brandon Thurston@brandonthurston.bsky.social

Unredacted: WWE's media rights deal with Netflix gave Netflix first rights to negotiate for UFC domestic media rights. Those rights ultimately went to Paramount, not Netflix.

British people's willingness to put up with crappy living situations to plough that money into leisure is why I really think we would genuinely love a shift towards more people having a weekday flat + weekend dacha

This post is unavailable.

I am still paying off the holidays I had between 2010-2015 - four trips to Trinidad, one to Zimbabwe, and one to Mauritius. Utter madness given that for most of that period I was on 50-66% of what I earn now in real terms

Jordan@jordanpfot.bsky.social

British people spend SO much money on holidays, it’s wild.

In fact I will say the Earnest and Pious Charismatic Ethnic Minority political figure (AOC, Mamdani, El-Sayed) has been a pretty good bet for the American left so far, whereas the Disaffected Gruff White Guy Showcasing True Masculinity (Fetterman, Platner) has been a worse bet. Just an observation.

Yeah start insinuating he has morning chai rather than coffee, say that he knocks things for 6 rather than hits a home run, allege that he is generally a clean living good boy who loves his mother and prays every Friday (pejorative).

a weird set of people who only exist online are people who celebrate the defeat of global fascism in every other country and are then horrified and appalled at the idea that they should also be expected to vote for their domestic opponent of global fascism if some of their stances are Problematic

Honestly the reaction to this take has been this site at it's most bizarre. Lots of people getting very angry at something they actually agree with, and assuming it must be an attack against them, despite being posted on a different website with very different politics

I mean does anyone actually think that Americans having a strong rooting interest in other countries politics is healthy for democratic self-government? Bearing in mind American is a category that includes Donald Trump, Mark Zuckerberg & Elon Musk!!!

I think it's more profound than that - it shows all they have is boomer grievance mongering

William Lane@williamjtlane.bsky.social

The Imperial units thing is a massive blaring alarm that the anti-EU right have nothing to work with. Even for people who actually remember them they are a symbolic victory, and for anyone under 50 they sound more like a hinderance than a help. If Reform are leading with this, they're worried.

Woah. That's a spicy meatball

Serious point though, this kind of thing does prove Linz's point about presidential systems: having absolute power decided by a zero sum election no matter how narrow really is quite a bad idea.

Look it's gotta be Marvel vs Capcom 2, the greatest mugen ever created

--The #BSGOTYs2026 nomination round: 2000-- Please nominate up to five games from 2000 to advance to the ranked ballot For what counts, see: bsky.app/profile/bata... You are not restricted to games included on the grid, here is a fuller list: backloggd.com/games/lib/po...

MvC1 has polish, balance and depth. MvC2 is just as many assets from other games as Capcom can chuck at a sibgle project with the volume turned WAAAAAY up. It's great

First Orban, now Vučić. Both fundamentally undone by rank corruption of their regimes. Which is so often the reality of the authoritarian right in power. Really worth paying heed to in Western Europe right now

Peter Geoghegan@petergeoghegan.bsky.social

Wow. Vučić has conceded Serbian election. Massive moment for the entire Balkans

Will Cooling reposted

Liberal democracy remains a towering achievement of humanity and it is worth fighting for.

The long-serving strongman leader of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has conceded defeat in an election that pitted him and his right-wing party against a diverse student-led opposition movement that spent two years protesting his government.

It's a sad and forgotten truth that racism can be a lot of fn: it makes the people who do it feel like winners! They get to be part of something!

Also not seen enough discussion of the fact that the EU may well actively oppose the UK joining the Euro (even if it wanted to) given the potential of an economy the size of the UK's to destabilise the currency.

Sam Freedman@samfr.bsky.social

Also FoM is a red line for the EU and I don't think the Euro or Schengen would be.

100% This. I also think people are slightly overlooking that the EU is still indulging our Schegen opt-out by not making Ireland join it. The idea they would become stricter if we rejoin doesn't make sense

Jonn Elledge@jonnelledge.bsky.social

Feel like this stuff's a red herring. If the EU wants Britain back in the club, solutions will be found to stuff like this. If it doesn't, this stuff is not the barrier.

Maybe Burnham's dog whistles will get Rejoin over the line but if any issue has proven that "the ends justify the means" isn't true, unless you're a very cheap date*, then it's Brexit *I was that cheap date

Reagan talked about welfare queens in Cadillacs, Trump talks about Somalian thieves in Mercedes Benzes, because being *real* racist has been a core strategy Republican politicians for a very long time, even if prior to Trump a lot of folks who should have known better enjoyed pretending otherwise.

If I, or a team member, were asked to remove that pin or told it would be edited out I'd want us to be brave enough to walk off set. At some point we've just got to refuse to work with a BBC that does this to us.

And let's be honest some of that is on Obama. He's a bit like Tony Blair in that he's taken the easy, lucrative path rather than actually retiring or staying in the trenches. Only he's nowhere near as corrupt as Blair and has stayed more aligned with his party

Sky Marchini@sky.skymarchini.net

I don’t think the young people (ie if you’re under 25 you don’t really remember Obama) realize just how electric a speaker he is

Honestly, I'd imagine most GCs aren't thrilled about us bisexuals because we do reject their binary

Ariadne Griffin@ariadnereviews.bsky.social

interesting to note that one of the pins was specifically the Bisexual Flag and I'm sure all those people with their ~legitimate concerns~ who were clammering to remove the T will oppose this. Oh? What's that? *crickets*

I'm just saying, constitutional amendment so both Trump and Obama can run in 2028....

The new Street Fighter film is fun. It quite correctly doesn't take itself too seriously, the comedy mostly lands pretty well, and it's sorta over the top sexy if you like athletic men being homoerotic or domme women - which, er, you know, I suspect there might be some fans of on this website.
