One of my professors was part of his campaign team. He told us a story once about Obama calling his wife excited about getting some piece of legislation passed when he was a senator and his wife responding with "There are ants in the house"

To flip some discourse script for a bit: what’s y’all’s Obama number (ie degrees of separation with the former president)? Mine is 3

Kansas Dem Sen. nominee Adam Hamilton on trans rights: “I don’t think we should take a small group of people and bully them, pick on them, and hurt them. I understand one thing really clearly when it comes to transgender people, and that is Jesus told me I was to love my neighbor as I love myself”

I know this is one of the least important things about this but the name of the subhuman hick who rapes kids was Cledith?! Between this and the kitten thing, this would be laughed at in any decent writing room for being too on the nose and overwrought

In MAGA, parental estrangement is a big issue — and parents are held out as blameless victims. I suspect that's one reason why Vivek Ramaswamy ran an ad celebrating Amy Acton's vile mother. And why MAGA — including Vance and Trump — are backing him. www.salon.com/2026/10/23/r...

It's nice to see that the idealistic dream of the internet still gets realized occasionally

Bluesky has been amazing at connecting me with people who suffer chronic migraine and facial pain. I just spent 90 minutes talking to a young woman who is REALLY facing the worst of her condition right now. It seemed to help both of us. If you need help or you know someone who does, DM me.

There have in fact been many such cases

I don’t hate Harris or even that strongly oppose her running, but it’s completely plausible that someone who is a weak GE candidate could win a primary

the main tradeoff of going to grad school isn't money or prestige. that would be laughable. the main reason to do it is so you can ruthlessly pick apart movies that touch on your area of subject expertise

All prisoners should have the right to vote while in prison

Taniel@taniel.bsky.social

Arguably the biggest democracy referendum next month: Virginia is one of only three states where the state constitution says people should lose their right to vote FOR THEIR ENTIRE LIFE if they are convicted of any felony. This measure would allow anyone to vote after prison.

In light of recent revelations, one thing that I find rather annoying is the habit of some people saying that a person who was revealed to have done something heinous never made good work. As if the quality of art is determined by sanctity of one's soul. It feels exculpatory for lack of better word

Or if you always found the creator's work to be shoddy or pretentious or shallow, that's fine. But I am awfully suspicious if people start saying that right after allegations drop. Not liking art that happens to be made by bad people doesn't make you a better person

Like, it's one thing if you can no longer enjoy someone's work in good conscience or the revelations recontextualize a work in a way that makes it uncomfortable to experience (looking at you, Netflix Sandman Muse episode. Christ, it feels like he was playing in our faces with that one)

The first team in MLB history to make the postseason after even two consecutive 100-loss seasons (they had 3) just won a postseason series These White Sox, what a story!

See, the version of this that actually works is this guy comes in thinking Wayne is entirely useless and partners with Penguin in a bunch of charitable endeavors that are used as a cover for crime and then the Joker kills his family for fun, turning our guy into essentially the punisher

Bo Thompson@gaudipern.bsky.social

I want a "villain" for Bruce Wayne that's just some dude who's really positive and charismatic who thinks wealth disparities are central to Gotham's issues. I want him upset Bruce by doing things like building a homeless shelter over the alley where the Waynes died and dedicating it to them.

Use it to have a theme of "Is Batman/Bruce doing enough to help Gotham?". Everybody seems skeptical of the Penguin partnership but actually seems to be working, the guy seems to be accomplishing more than Wayne. And when he goes Punisher, he becomes really popular until he crosses a line

And if one thinks "Wait, that's completely antithetical to the point I was trying to make", well, yeah. The point you were trying to make is completely antithetical to Batman. It's fine to not like Batman, but that doesn't mean it needs to be fixed

Kevin@reginageorgebush.bsky.social

you have to slur your words a little, like you're drunk, but without sounding drunk or letting the words bleed together like a drunk person does. you have to keep your voice at a weird, uncomfortable masc-queen purr. and you have to get the vocal tics right. but it's not THAT hard

You will notice that at no point in this thread is there any engagement with actual Israeli policy, or the response of various Palestinian national movements, or how international law should be applied, etc, because it's mostly about his discursive enemies, rather than anything real or concrete.

It's kind of wierd how without the exact source material, Neagley drifts closer to millennial. It's still dad TV, with the superbowl shuffle and Styx, but the theme of childhood trauma running through it makes it feel quite different

I kind of wish some people would just admit that bidenist centrism is there emotional support ideology and that they don't actuallyhave any high minded principles, just distaste for people to their left their left that they've had simmering for over a decade

I don't know *why* this was a 9/11 tribute but it's still my favorite (insane) 9/11 tribute. Raul Esparza went on that stage and was like "oh no, I am going to MAKE you understand that this is a song about an insanely toxic sexual relationship and how it destroys you. Anyway #NeverForget"
