I had assumed that's what he meant, but it's obviously not what he said. The press should not be condemned for reporting what he said; and no one with this much difficulty expressing his thoughts is fit to be president.

And that's the point. How can you be proud of something you have no control over? It is what it is .

The idea of being ‘proud’ of being English is barking to me. It’s the very definition of an accident of birth. I had no choice or role in it. I’m proud of things I’ve actually achieved.

Farage should attend a park run, a game of football, a Primary School in Clacton, a Prom concert before he goes all "Broken Britain" The country is NOT broken. It's millions of people, born without Farage's privilege, trying cheerfully trying their best for their families and communities.

Absolutely. A good man done down.

Keir Starmer was and is a decent man at a time when decency in politics was in decline. Unlike Mr Farage his decisions were based on what he perceived were the best for the country rather than himself. I say that as someone who disagreed with several that he made. I wish him well. #bbcpm

Struggling to work out why Jenrick would single out these three Commonwealth countries rather than, say, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, whose citizens have exactly the same rights. It’s a head-scratcher.

It would be impossible to guess any of this from most media coverage.

New immigration stats show that the numbers of asylum seekers in hotels is down to 16k - falling 50% in a year. Small boat crossings down 23% in the year to June. Numbers waiting for initial decision down from almost 180k to 40k.

This eclipse celebration we are having in the garden has frankly been something of a damp squib. It has now turned into another bottle of wine with the sunset. Oh well.

Complete bollocks from the Express. This is actually the cost per mile given the current high price of fuel. And of course plenty won't bother to read the article.

@telegraph.co.uk @lbc.co.uk @gbnewsonline.bsky.social Will you take responsibility when the 90%+ of benefit claimants who are NOT EXEMPT assume they’re ok to use a hosepipe based on your headlines? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Emma Monk@monkemma.bsky.social

The more I've looked at this story, the angrier I've become. Misleading headlines designed to push a divisive narrative are bad enough. But headlines that risk vulnerable people doing something they’re not allowed to do are deeply irresponsible. 1/3

There is simply too much focus in the UK media on a puffed up narcissist with a ludicrous title who pops up to spout idiotic soundbites whenever actual adults are trying to discuss the future of governing Britain. For example, here he is talking about Count Binface.

Aren't we supposed to have reached sunlit uplands by now?

Imagine the utter contempt you’d have to have for your constituents that you would think you could do absolutely nothing for them while lining your pockets and they would be stupid enough to vote for you again. #Farage #Clacton

The worst thing with this hot weather and being outside in the countryside is having to interact with the insect world. They have some complete bastards amongst their number.

Wholly agree with this. Mothball the Westminster building and build a new modern well equipped parliament building. With an elected 2nd chamber.

3) Move the capital to Manchester. I've been banging on about this for almost a decade (see below) but the point stands: devolution is good but creating a viable second centre to UK would be much, much better. www.economist.com/bagehots-not...

If chronicle means amplifying every division, belittling Starmer at every opportunity, downplaying every achievement and delighting in parroting the Tory line in dreadful prose, then Mason has chronicled the last two years. Sadly it doesn't, and Mason has been a participant not a neutral observer.

If the bloke wielding a knife and attacking passersby was a Muslim all today's rolling news and political programmes would be coming live from the streets of Edinburgh and Farage's ugly mush would be on every show.

And scrutiny and criticism which he is so anxious to avoid.

One person who'll be secretly pleased by the by-election results will be Nigel Farage. Becoming PM is his worst nightmare. It involves hard work, long hours and tough decisions. It's not the lucrative gig of being a rent boy for the billionaire class.

Loud minority Vs quiet majority.

Just what will it take for politicians and media to act in the best interests of the country and to give voice to the majority of voters… who are decent and liberal? Instead of trashing the place, chasing after the approval of ignorant racists who seem to have a total monopoly on their attention.
