We are Extinction Rebellion Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole, a volunteer-powered group standing up to protect our planet and build a stronger community. We believe ordinary people have the power to change things and that we are stronger together.
I warned 3 years ago that mink farms are a likely route to a new and horrific human pandemic, and once more I'm fervently praying it doesn't map out that way.

Wild new story from @natlash.bsky.social
Bird flu has been raging uncontrolled on a mink farm for two months. Flu experts fear it could spark a devastating human pandemic. But officials haven’t acted, instead prioritizing the financial interests of the fur trade. www.propublica.org/article/bird...

🌍💚 We braved the winds in Boscombe today for our Mothers' Rebellion for Climate Justice circle! A lovely turnout, ukulele music, forest school crafts and community solidarity.
We refuse to look away. We refuse to give up. We will do everything we can for a liveable future for every child. 🌿
Models that say we can overshoot 1.5°C & come back down assume:
- we will transform our food systems from carbon source to sink
- forests and soils keep absorbing 25% of our emissions
- oceans keep absorbing another 25%
- we enact a vast build-out of tech to pull CO2 back out of the air
#FOTW Daily Post 20
As well as the atmosphere and oceans, a changing climate can wake the solid Earth

All this, plus the fact that nature is important for hundreds of other reasons beyond its role in mitigating climate change
Nature should never be reduced to just a carbon store, and I say that as a climate activist
Endlessly frustrates me how the nature crisis is commonly presented as part of the climate crisis
Yes, climate change is driving biodiversity loss, & nature degradation exacerbates climate change
But, even if we stop climate change tomorrow, biodiversity loss & its dire consequences will continue
A green light for the Jackdaw gas field isn't the end of the matter
Far from it
Now we must make sure that the much worse Rosebank oil field doesn't see the light of day
Please listen to my @stopcambo.bsky.social call to @andyburnham.bsky.social to leave the Rosebank oil in the ground
Just 2 days after telling us they're committed to making the crisis worse by greenlighting more fossil fuel extraction, the government is now telling us it's our responsibility to prepare for the impacts of the climate breakdown that's already upon us
A shameful abdication of responsibility
#FOTW Daily Post 19
1.5°C equates to key tipping points such as the loss of the Greenland Ice Sheet that, once crossed, won't reverse on any human timescale.
1.5°C isn't a slogan. It's a set of one-way doors to a different world
And it's now shut behind us

Let’s eradicate our life support systems – that’ll teach the liberals!
It's not just about giving destructive industries what they want, important as this is. The likes of Trump and Bolsonaro will kill the planet out of a vengeful desire to hurt. My column.

"Opening any new North Sea oil and gas fields is incompatible with achieving the Paris Climate Agreement goals of limiting warming to 1.5°C or holding warming to “well below 2°C” relative to preindustrial"

Plenty of utter BS from the government and FF supporters being used to justify this monstrous decision
Every tonne of CO2 we don't emit counts - and every tonne we do takes 400,000 years to completely remove from the atmosphere
Politically inept too
www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cw...
"This decision will support the country’s energy security with homegrown gas this winter and help minimise the UK’s use of imported higher emission fuels as we continue our transition to renewables and nuclear."
The minister is knowingly spouting utter bullshit, this decision is insane
Overshoot into dangerous climate change will not just produce damage, but accumulating damage. That has profound consequences for how we assess climate risk & tipping points. "The overshoot integral can inform climate science and policy beyond 1.5°C of warming"
www.technosphere.earth/overshoot-in...
Today's decision by Labour to approve new drilling in the North Sea is climate vandalism.
It's a betrayal of all of our futures, and Labour has abandoned all credibility in the fight against climate change.
This is a victory for Shell over the people.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cw...
Approving the Jackdaw gas field solves none of our problems, while contributing to the existential crisis of climate breakdown. The government has privileged special interests above the general interest. It's a shameful, cowardly decision.
I hate this narrative that planetary vandalism will "dismay environmental campaigners"
I'm an environmental campaigner because I want to stand up for the millions of other species we share our home with
Campaigners aren't doing it for themselves - we're a voice for the voiceless
Having successfully compromised the climate COPs, the fossil fuel sector and its allies are now targetting the IPCC climate reports themselves
If they succeed, then we can finally say goodbye to any serious action to cut emissions
The end game beckons

Yesterday afternoon, ICE agents — who did not present a warrant, and who appear to have been disguised as construction workers — fired 7 shots into a car with a 5-year-old child, hitting Oscar Belgal in the neck.

"Nearly 93% of known plastic chemicals used to wrap food and make clothes, toys, and other common household and personal care products pose a high risk to human health"
Plastic, mind you, is Big Oil's backup plan, on the off chance we decide to swap free solar energy for planet-killing fossil fuel.
There will be no new normal, and yes we need to adapt
But it is simply not possible to adapt to endlessly worsening conditions
So we have to do everything in our power to stop the defenders of the status quo from continuing to make things worse
Climate change isn’t taking us to one new, stable place. It’s pushing us into a future of constant change and growing uncertainty.
So the question isn’t: What will the new normal be?
It’s: How do we prepare for a climate that won’t stand still?
