Kind of mad at my self. I just spent all last night trying to get a flight simulator HOTAS joystick working on Linux. Keys were mapped wrong not recognized, etc. I just had to plug it in to my windows laptop and update the firmware 🤦‍♂️

Had a great time giving my first two Confrence talks at #kcdc. Thank you to the @kcdc.bsky.social team for giving me this opportunity, and for everyone who came to them! Met a lot of great people and listened to a lot of great talks.

Well i guess im officially a speaker at @kcdc.bsky.social this year! Im excited to give talks alongside some really great speakers and engineers. Can’t wait to get down to KCDC. It’ll also be my first time in Kansas City, and I’m really looking forward to trying some of that BBQ.

AI search tools that sumarize websites need to be heavily regulated. They’re bad for both consumers and they’re bad for publishers. They steal content and traffic from publishers, de-incentivizing them to publish content, while also opaquely injecting their opinions on consumers.

Just remember this tariff war didn’t need to be started, it’s all stupid and now you’ve got a gorilla banging its chest with no off ramp.

When asked if there is going to be a recession this year, Trump responded "I hate to predict things like that," and that Americans should expect to feel pain for a little bit. I love feeling pain in my retirement accounts! #trumprecession #arewewinningyet

Can we have Biden back as president? I mean sure he was old, ineffectual at times, and tripped over his words, but at least my portfolio wasn't down 6% over the course of a month. Is this winning? Because I decided I don't actually like winning.

Farmers are going to run to Congress for another handout to deal with the retaliatory tariffs and the answer from Dems has to be "no." This isn't out of retribution, it's because we can't keep creating escape hatches for GOP members of Congress. For the benefit of all, keep the pressure on them.

This is probably only one of only two, maybe three halftime shows ever which actually have an artistic point of view beyond “here are my greatest hits”. It’s already extraordinary.

Some of the same people who laud our constitutional republic as a Divine Manifest need to read the federalist papers, specifically federalist no1. Paraphrasing here: “it will be forgotten that government protects our liberty, and a dangerous ambition hides behind a zeal for firmness and efficiency”

It’s funny how highly some people regard the founding fathers on blind faith with out reading some of their most important works that are not the constitution. Arguments that they have made 238 years ago are suddenly feeling a lot more real. These guys knew what they were talking about.

The "peace candidate" Trump wants to force 2 million Palestinians from their homes, give another $1 billion in weapons to Netanyahu, and enact a "plan" to turn the decimated Gaza strip into a billionaires' Riviera. If this is his "peace" policy, I'd hate to see his war policy.

“On the other hand, it will be equally forgotten that the vigor of the government is essential to the security of liberty;… and that a dangerous ambition more often lurks behind the specious mask of zeal for the rights of the people. “

My wife bought an EV last week. A Chevy Equinox EV. It’s really nice and the interior feels great. Only downside is the lack of car play. Also does anyone in #michigan know of grants or programs to install a charger in your home? The outlet sucks.

I see all of this hype and conversation around LLMs and how they’re getting so good at writing code, and I feel like I’m missing something. I’ve used chatGPT, Claude, V0 and cursor and they make me like 5-10% more effective. 9/10 times, the code has terrible hallucinations, what am I missing?

Just installed and signed up for cursor like 10 minutes ago. First impression is that it’s just a little worse than an intern. I had to correct 7 lines of code like I did with an intern just learning react with a pattern I used through out the codebase. I think my job is safe for now.

I decided to play with #payloadcms. I like it so far, but I do have some criticisms: 1. installing and setup is a bit arduous 2. I wish their code first API was a bit more ergonomic. I can solve number 2

Every time I think about playing the Witcher 3, I remember how much of a slog the first act is and it gives me pause. Could be a perfect game if the opening act was better.

“Code is most often read”

Performed a few code reviews today. The biggest thing I had to correct was unnecessary complexity. For Go, using a Pipe when it was totally unnecessary. For JS: using unnecessary syntax choices around defining functions. Also not using {} for if stmts. Think about others when writing code!

Today was the first day in my almost 2 years with the same Mac for work that I’ve had to build a docker container and push it to ECS and I got an exec format error. Totally forgot that I had an ARM Mac. Took me a second. Don’t tell my employer. (I mostly build serverless stuff any who).
