Bike commuting is great for a number of reasons, one of which is its remarkable consistency. Now that I've optimized my new commute, my 3.5 mile ride never varies by more than 15 seconds.

Every functioning democracy needs a party of the left and of the right - and both within the framework of accepted rules of a liberal constitutional order. One day I hope we get that back.

As a lifelong Democrat voter… America is better off when we have a principled Republican party, too. Be careful about treating all Republicans as irredeemable cretins. The current crop does fit that description and deserves to be shamed and run out of office — the leaders and cowardly followers.

“Cyclists are often perceived as recklessly flaunting road laws. A new study challenges this perception. The study found only 5% of cyclists broke road rules while riding on bike infrastructure versus 66% of motorists who broke rules while driving.” Safe bike infrastructure fuels rule-following.

This is why it was a good line, because yes there are Americans who think of The Cheesecake Factory as a special occasion restaurant but Trump is not one of them. So thank you very much Donald for taking the bait.

Trump is BIG MAD about Obama saying the White House now looks like Saddam opened a Cheesecake Factory: "He's not a smart guy. He's not smart at all ... for you to say it's a Cheesecake Factory, that just shows why you were a lousy president"

Every time I go on a long bike ride in a city I am sad at the bathrooms that do not exist. Saw more public bathrooms in a single park in Youngstown Ohio than might exist in all of Providence’s parks combined.

Joyful Riders Club@joyfulridersclub.bsky.social

Lack of access to bathrooms was a major problem on our ride today. Minneapolis, you need some improvements here.

Docker is three esoteric Linux security features in a trenchcoat that give you not bare metal, not a VM but a secret third kind of thing. And podman are those same three things in a duster. Except you don't need to ride a motorcycle most of the time, you just installed fedora for some reason

In 1991 a guy named George Holliday filmed some BTS footage of the T2 scene where Arnold arrives in the present - they were filming near his house and he just went out with his camcorder. A few hours later he saw cops pull a guy out of his car, and filmed the beating of Rodney King on the same tape.

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

I can't reply here, but I'll say that another INVISIBLE group that uses ebikes is the working poor. They are a great tool to break the cycle of poverty caused by the expense of car maintenance.

I'm also a weirdo that bikes on Staten Island at 4am because I don't want to figure out how to park in a parking lot in Elizabeth or drive into Manhattan at 5am on a Sunday, SO I CAN BIKE SOME MORE. So I understand other people think different than me.

I don't say anything to anyone going to work on a bike. If you're a kid on a class 1 ebike without a helmet, Unc will smoke you on his acoustic bike and yell GET A DAMN HELMET as he does. This is especially fun when I have the homeless man beard

I do absolutely wish that someone besides armed LEOs would try to encourage the working poor to not use their ebikes on sidewalks when I'm literally riding next to them on bike lanes or streets I'd be ok with my ten year old biking on. However, the people that do that are being safe and considerate.

This might be the last bike ride I take until spring (because it's cold) and I have 9 2x2 cm Ziploc bags full of ~20 grams of Gatorade powder each in my saddle bag. Either rats will eat my saddle bag or I'm getting arrested for being a coke dealer come spring

Waymo is coming to NYC and I feel like this is some 4D chess strategy where someone pays Waymo to put robot taxis in NYC in hopes they will be vandalized so crime numbers get inflated and Mamdani doesn't get reelected.
