Ok. So. A lot of congress will say they “submitted a letter to forgo pay during shutdown.” Congress is paid once a month so they have 30 days. Secondly, they want you to believe they are saying they will give up their pay. No. They just hold it until it reopens

Trump looks OFF. Something happened to him he seems unhealthy, drawling his words more than ever. His hell bent determination to turn Americans against AMerican is getting worse and dangerous. He is mentally compromised. .

Shutting the Government down is the best thing that could happen...The Government is not working in the best interest of the people anyway. Besides, this should make all of MAGA happy. They don't believe in Government. They only believe in power.

Argh. He used to be my Rep until the we were returned to our prior district. He’s a tool. His district was gerrymandered so Reps could get another seat. A real piece of work.

Fastest way to in the shutdown is to announce that you will not Back pay Any construction work done at the White House during the shutdown. And because any such pay would have to be authorized by Congress, those construction workers would stop working just to be safe.

Rather than shutting down the government, a better suggestion would be in the event of a shutdown is to immediately stop the pay of all the WH & staff, legislators and their staff, temporarily suspend their health insurance and deny all perks until they resolve this crisis.

They believe they are part of the elite crowd. One of their billionaire buddies will give them money if they sell another piece of their soul. These people don't represent the people. Hell, many don't even live in the district or state that they represent.

Enrollment is highest in states like New Mexico (35%), Kentucky (40% in rural areas), and Louisiana, often in Republican-held districts. About 51% of Republicans and 44% of Democrats have a family member on Medicaid. 40%ON MEDICAID ARE CHILDREN. BUT DEMOCRATS DO NOT WORK FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE?

I'm guessing recently-elected Representative Grijalva WON'T ever get paid for the closure period since Speaker Johnson refused to swear her in. And the only possible reason he could have had for doing that was to keep her from signing on to release the Epstein files.

Contact your Reps (ESPECIALLY IF THEYRE REPUBLICAN) and tell them you want Medicaid funding & Affordable Care Act tax credits restored, AND a provision preventing Trump from impounding/rescinding funds appropriated by Congress/enforcement of Impoundment Control Act.

This 👆Everything that Trump and his Project2025 friends don’t like, they just ignore - impound funding for housing that serves the disabled and elderly, food subsidies, healthcare. Whatever we, the American people want from paying taxes are being taken away to support this regime. No.

Dear generals: If the military is asked to turn on its own citizens, including its own family members, remember, it can equally turn on its Commander in Chief, and other politicians asking it to do so.

In high school, I asked one if he would be willing to take a pay cut to help fund schools and he said he made less in his first term than he did then so that "was like a pay cut." I was pissed and no one else noticed it was a bullshit answer.

Any time that there is a government shutdown... all of Congress, the White House (including the President), and the SCOTUS should have to give back retroactively one month's salary, and any subsequent month's salaries, which cannot be refunded later... period... 🤬

The average member of Congress isn’t living paycheck to paycheck. The median net worth of a U.S. lawmaker is around $1 million—making them far wealthier than the typical American household.

As all other federal employees are either furloughed or required to work without pay, including TSA & our Coast Guard, Congress should be the first to have their pay eliminated ...

And, as I understand it (I'm Canadian), the number of millionaires in Congress is shockingly high. Waiting for their pay... isn't going to hurt them in anyway close to what many of their constituents are going to get hurt.

But Adam, let's make this clear. Democrats want to keep millions of Americans insured for healthcare. IT IS BS that Ds are for healthcare for people here illegally, which is AGAINST the LAW. So, unless trump is giving healthcare to illegal residents, IT IS NOT HAPPENING.

NOPE, it's BIWEEKLY. Members of Congress are paid on a biweekly basis, receiving their salaries every two weeks during the terms for which they are elected.

Members of Congress also make $174,000 a year, so they won’t have to decide between food and medicine during a shutdown. In related news, how does Speaker Mike Johnson cash his paycheck since he says in his required financial forms that he doesn’t have a bank account? Does he get it in cash?

“Secretary of War” who can’t do a pull-up and wears makeup demands that military become more fit. President Blubber agrees. Intend to use soft civilian targets as training dummies.

Right - they are not foregoing their paychecks. Or the healthcare or food allowance or all the other things they get for working about half a year.

A whole lot of people are going to be hurting, but not them. Especially not with the free healthcare they get, that we pay for. Of course they’re trying the old “I donate my paycheck” bit, from the book of daddy trump. He gets away with it, maybe they will too!

Democrats is all about helping illegals not Americans, all the older people will not get their Social security pay, that they worked for for decades, because Government spend it. Give yourselves a big atta boy.

Wow! We can’t let them make decisions that only affect us while they live unscathed by their punitive measures! Same with healthcare-Congress should have the same crappy healthcare the rest of US citizens have. They are not special

I’m willing to keep this government shutdown through Inauguration Day if necessary. Longer if required. Zero fux for the cult. Shut it down. Keep it shut. They didn’t want to negotiate. Let them live with that choice. That should be the dems position. Don’t recall members to dc. Spread the message.

Question: Where does Congress pay come from? Is it from the same place as Federal employee pay? I’m not asking that they forgo their pay forever but that they go without pay in the same way all essential personnel go without pay. Either that or find a way to pay essential Fed emp during shutdowns.

And let's not forget Adam that these people are making a six figure salary. What is it now? $176,000/yr? Even if they don't get paid for a few months they'll be just fine unless they're living like trump, like kings. Congress can afford it. We can't.

But how does Mike Johnson cash his check, without a bank account? And, seriously - does anyone care that Mike Johnson apparently doesn't make his required financial disclosures? Or am I being picky?

Honestly if we all banded together and believed one another some how that would work. Cause someone would def come in with a solution. They’d get all of us on their companies plan.

In Oregon we give the legislators that obstruct proceedings a number of days to protest and after that if you refuse to show up and make quorum then you become ineligible to run for reelection in the next cycle.

Exactly! But our sorely underpaid active & reserve military as well as real public servants will go unpaid because the rich somehow just do not have enough yet. Waste, fraud & abuse: look at government contractors like Muskrat & his 80M per day! Just one of many who pillage our government daily.

What they fail to realize is that Trump doesn't care about them or anyone else everything he's doing including his lecturing the military is for him to take autocratic control or am I the only one that's thinking that's the end game here for him We need to save ourselves we can't keep WAITING 🙏

Legislative approps are always one of the first to be approved and I never missed a paycheck in 16 years as a Senate/House staffer due to shutdowns. bsky.app/profile/jmcr...

Oh, the Inanity@jmcrowell.bsky.social

Shutdowns were easier as a House staffer (1x/mo.) versus Senate (2x/mo.) versus back at an agency now (every 2 weeks). At least the Senate Credit Union has the 0% shutdown loan available—as they always do—first thing this morning.

If I were a Democrat in Congress—RIGHT NOW—I’d be making PUBLIC APPEARANCES on local news stations, podcasts, churches ⛪️, community halls, etc., and voicing out how the Republicans are holding hostage the Affordable Care Act, the rights of immigrants and citizens (via ICE raids), etc.

NOW is the time for Democrats to take action and use this opportunity to get their voices out to the people, who DO NOT believe/listen to mainstream news, who are brainwashed by extremist rhetoric, and/or feel abandoned by the Democrats.

Can SOMEONE please explain why we’ve been conditioned to EXPECT ANY POLITICIANS TO TELL THE TRUTH…. About anything??? The biggest turn off for me is a liar. PERIODT

More pathetic behavior from Congress. R’s in congress gave up their commitment to the Constitution and joined the MAGA cult. They do whatever they are told to do by the orange convicted felon. SAD.

Heg ,no alcohol, switched to 💊drugs, from the dispensary. Congress maga, restore the People's healthcare+ programs. Or: Congress forfeits their benefits.⚖️ Taxpayers money, remember?

Trump also said that further down in history "when they talk about the government shutdown, they’re going to be talking about the president of the United States, who the president was at that time. They’re not going to be talking about who's the head of the House, the head of the Senate" -Trump 2013
