Clarification: as a character Kilgore isn’t inherently evil. That’s the pacifist in me speaking. Duvall’s character may have loved war all the while building trust with his soldiers and leading them well through the evil hell hole they were in.

I really hope im wrong about this, but i believe only death will remove him from the white house. I think in his own mind, the biggest life mistake he made was leaving the office in 2020 when his followers would have supported overturning the governement to keep him in power, he wont leave again !

It’s actually not called the Department of War, he’s just calling it that. And the courts just reiterated to him that the employees of that department aren’t allowed to do domestic law enforcement, so he’s admitting his intention to give illegal orders.

Don’t forget that when his country had a call up this guy didn’t run to help, he ran to his local PODIATRIST to keep him safe. The rich kid sent to a military academy bc of his aggressive bullying of classmates and siblings, likely his mother too, now wants us to believe he’s the tough guy.

It's also an adaptation of the Victorian novella Heart of Darkness, an anti-colonial book from 1899. In particular it focused on the damage colonialism did to the colonizer, driving them mad with power so they lost their grip on reality.
