John Kennedy on Republican healthcare ideas: "Bringing back high risk pools, which have been outlawed under the ACA."

Or, tax-funded universal healthcare for all US residents (including permanent residents and long-term foreign workers & students) like Canada has. Of course Republicans would crawl over broken glass to vote down such a healthcare plan. They want Americans to be sick, suffer, die, or go bankrupt.

Can we please make elected officials get the same median pay and healthcare as their constituents so the outcomes of what they do actually matter to them? Maybe make them young enough that they know they will live through the consequences long enough to matter?

The GOP stands for pretty much one thing: protect rich people’s money from being taxed at all costs. In order to get more than just rich people to support them, they throw in bigotry and racism to gather support from mid/poor white people. Affordable healthcare for all is the antithesis to this.

Why the ACA cut out pools -- High costs: Premiums were double what healthier people paid Exclusions for pre-existing conditions: Nearly all states excluded coverage Lifetime limits: Most states had lifetime coverage limits Enrollment caps: Some limited how many people could buy thru their pool

You first John, that bullshit foghorn leghorn accent doesn’t fool me. You went to Oxford, you fake the moronic hick but know what you’re doing. You want high risk pool policy? Go get one yourself you fuckin hack

Screw that!!!! Back in 1998 I couldn't get insurance because of pre-existing condition, I looked into the state's high risk pool. $550/month - then. I can only imagine what it would be now. The same assholes that said we should go to ER for primary care.

High risk pools are an insurance and political scam. And create prohibitively high premium insurance pools. As “high risk” individuals opt out the politicians can say they fixed things but folks just didn’t want it. And the insurance pools go into a death spiral. Utter bullshit.

My dream is that some really smart people are working on a plan moving towards single payer. It’s our only hope to reduce cost and cover more. If dems present this, I think it would be popular.

Honest question, why are these people so incapable of doing basic research? Are they lazy or simply inept? High risk pools were banned because they were often 200% higher cost with pre-existing condition exclusions. Even pregnancy was enough to get you kicked off. They were unaffordable.

I remember high risk pools. I remember when I couldn't even get insurance because I was too high risk. I remember when there was a time there was a cap on insurance spending. It was a lifetime cap, and it was like $1,000,000. After you cross the cap, no insurance for you! Just stop making it worse!

Young people would like high deductible plans because they make a bet. They bet they won’t get sick or injured so they buy the “ cheapest plan” which as it turns out isn’t so damn cheap when you step on a nail and get that ER bill

High risk pools is incredibly vague and gives insurance companies plenty of ammo to deny coverage to people who have pre-existing conditions. Disgusting.

Well he could do that instead of having a gold plated health plan as a member of the government. Young healthy people could just say "to hell with it" and take their chances. High deductible, high risk, aka waste of money He has not been thinking at all, he is just Foghorn Leghorn clucking drivel.

Kennedy is a liar. ACA did not "outlaw" high risk pools. ACA forced insurers to stop denying coverage based on pre-existing conditions. Allowing Kennedy and other to LIE to gullible people is criminal. It sure is NOT journalism or news.

There was a great reason the ACA outlawed high risk pools. I remember when patients got insurance “riders” on their breasts for 10 years for all sorts of stupid reasons… after even a benign breast biopsy. If they got breast cancer it was entirely excluded from insurance coverage. Horrific.

I remember when a startup almost went under because the CTO's husband was diagnosed with a blood cancer and no one would insure the company. How about we not.

I have end stage renal failure through no fault of my own, just bad genetics. Bringing back high risk pools assumes insurers can deny coverage again. I should have to go bankrupt because I was dealt a bad hand?

High risk pools were a failure. They were often underfunded, had limited benefits, coverage limits, exclusions for pre-existing conditions, high premiums, high deductibles, and exclusions for pre-existing conditions.

Easy for him to say, he's receiving cush insurance at taxpayer expense. At his age, he would be in a high risk pool. which costs 150%+ of a regular premium. Since he's become fairly well off during his congressional tenure (@ $20M +/-), maybe he could cover some folks with health insurance.

Oh hell those were the worse things ever just to make the insurance companies very rich. I witnessed several women with breast cancer denied service because of the stupid ass risk pools. They died and the insurance companies sued the surviving husbands. F Republicans and their evil ways

“Well I tell ya Kasie, if it smells like tater salad then it’s something that a pole cat wouldn’t walk backwards for.” I’m not sure what Kennedy said in this video, but I bet my impersonation of him made more sense than the point he was making.

It's always 'high risk pools," which means Trump's "I will protect those with pre existing conditions" is a lie, leave a huge swath of the population with exorbitant costs and only able to dip into what are always underfunded hi risk pools. This is why R's never give specifics - they're awful.
