Rep. Van Orden: "Listen, the average American has been browbeaten into thinking that things are so much worse than they were under the Biden administration. That's just a lie. Eggs were $9 a dozen. I went to Walmart the other day, it was a buck 50."

I never paid more than 3.99 for a dozen and that same brand (Contented Hen) is still 3.99 a dozen. I did notice the price of the cheap national band eggs went through the roof several years ago and was amazed to see people still buying them when better quality and cheaper eggs were next to them.

These people love stepping on rakes. With energy prices, especially diesel fuel on the rise, that makes EVERYTHING more expensive due to higher transport costs.

Eggs? This asshole is talking about eggs? Everything is more expensive. I'm tired of this gaslighting bullshit. Screw him! I doubt he struggles. Does he even do his own grocery shopping? Stop trying to feed me crap. I have eyes and ears! I have a working brain. I'm not a freaking idiot.

He's lying, he knows he's lying, he also knows we know he's lying, but he's talking to one person, the only one that counts to him. Why is the question, why does he fear a demented liar so much who only has about 30% approval and he's up for reelection this year?

Sorry, I think I was browbeaten to try to get me to believe that I would be better off with a pedo loser convicted criminal than I would be with a black woman.

The Biden Administration Peak: The highest average retail price under Joe Biden occurred in January 2023, hitting $4.82 per dozen. This spike was heavily driven by a massive avian flu outbreak that forced farmers to cull millions of egg-laying hens.

Ok. I'll give trump credit on the fucking eggs. The flock recovered from bird flu. He had nothing to do with it but your special boy wants a win. How about every fucking thing else? If this is enough to pacify the stupids, they deserve everything they get.

It's more than enough to pacify the stupids. They're happy to destroy the entire postwar order if it means a trans girl four states away who they will never meet can't play volleyball with her friends.

During 2022, repeated outbreaks of avian influenza ravaged farm flocks of egg-laying hens, thereby drastically reducing the supply of eggs, which drove their prices to record highs. Btw, price of eggs on 1/19/2025 was $4.15, not $9. The current price of eggs is between $1.50-$4.00 based on brand.

If only we had some sort of apparatus that would fact check these things and give people the correct information. Maybe our Lords the Oligarchs will devise such a system one day.

Eggs were never $9 and theres no way he a) went to walmart b) paid $1.50 for a dozen eggs The prices have been creeping back up slowly, avg price by me is about $4.50-$5 with organic free range close to $8

I'm from his district, $1.50 a dozen here isn't far off. Kwik Trip regularly runs specials for 99¢/dz. Other than that though, he's a lying PoS and hasn't done anything positive for his constituents, ever.

We need to get rid of these people. I'm SO tired of the gaslighting. I mean, how do they not find this sort of thing embarassing when gas just went up 35% in four months and the cost of imports from Canada are going up 50 to 100%? They think people are that stupid? Sheesh.

So we all drive our egg cars that run on eggshells to our egg-powered offices where the egg-conditioner is running full blast, eat egg salad on egg bread, drive to our homes made of eggs and put our unhatched children to sleep. Now, if this *isn't* an egg-based economy, we could be in trouble.

I was at the store yesterday and almost wanted to cry. You can’t buy fresh vegetables because they can make you sick and the canned ones were almost $3.00! Even if you could afford food you take big chances eating it. MAHA my ass!

Can Representative Van Orden name one economic measure that is better now than it was on January 20, 2021? It's not about eggs or vibes. It's about numbers. Which numbers are better now? None of them. Not inflation, real wages, unemployment, GDP growth, nor interest rates. Things are worse.

Yes. It's epistemological problem. Reasonable people derive their knowledge of the world from data and facts. Most people derive their knowledge of the world from compelling narratives. The cost of eggs in this case. MAGA derive their knowledge of the world from their confirmation bias.

Fuck your eggs! Seriously it was revealed that the egg producers colluded and gouged and still do! When does someone say this - Biden was mending the damage done by Trump 1 (including covid) - he hadn't yet started to go after the oligarchy- whole reason they paid so much to put trump back in

Yes the egg shortage eventually ended and egg prices are indeed down to below $1.50 in WI (for basic non-free range and stuff)... of course all those corporations that were found to have artificially inflated the prices only got a slap on the wrist. Also basically everything else is more expensive.

Wisconsin has been familiar with the level of sh¡t that van orden can shovel, for some time now. Sadly he’s in a red pocket of the state

Oh ok. I just looked at a map and saw the blue around Lacrosse but more red than anything. I get it though. It’s just frustrating

Nobody beat my brow, but my grocery bill has crept up about 4% a week for much of this year. I've now reached about 40-50% more than the first of the year, for pretty much the same stuff. If you guys shopped for yourselves, you would know this.

The problem with this line of lies is that the ‘average American’ actually knows what things cost because they buy them. Probably better to stick to lies about tariffs or trade deficits or nuclear weapons or immigrants.

Eggs did get up to $5 here during the bird flu outbreak, now $2 at the discount market. Yesterday a beef soup bone was $20. Gas is $4.19 in Buffalo, NY. We don't eat the ground beef at all now because it's Trump mystery meat.

Eggs are down! Great! Instead of doing a two year victory lap, do the price of gas… or homes… or land… or strawberries… beef prices (before the mystery meat hits) …or our standing in the world… or everything else the demented orange demon has destroyed

Actually the prices went up more under Trump and because of how bad it got they had to cease their schemes temporarily. Trump may have a bad memory, like forgetting what happened on 9/11, but we collectively do not and can remember LAST YEAR.

Eggs had to do with the bird flu, not Biden. Biden didn't raise the price or lower it. The birds got better thanks to their dedicated bird doctors. So, Van Orden, talk about gas and electricity, and beef, and . . .

What Republican do is compare some sort of boutique eggs a MAGA celebrity found in LA to Walmart Great Value eggs in Oklahoma. Great Value eggs never got above $4.50 for a dozen at the same store he went to and found Great Value eggs for $1.50.

Gas prices are still climbing up, utility bills have gone way up, and every other thing in the grocery store costs a lot more than it did before. As a bonus, food borne illness is a real possibility when buying from grocery stores. But eggs are $1.50!

Poor Stancil. It was like a year into the Biden administration, maybe a little less, and prices had come down somewhat but were still high, and he was talking about the stuff Biden had done and was saying the economy was actually great and he got crucified, and like 2 weeks later a LOT of prices

True however he's lying. Walmart Great Value eggs never got higher than $4.50 in my area and are $1.87 at the moment. Republicans get away with lying because the MSM reports the lie as a "side" open to debate where people might have different opinions. Facts are not opinions.

They did get higher than that at least in parts of Wisconsin--I'm in Milwaukee and have a picture of $10.29 mass market eggs (at a small midscale grocery chain that serves a large Latino population), but that picture is from March 2025.

Prices that are in areas with a lot of lower income population are almost always higher than in most areas. Also those mass market type eggs (Eggland, etc.) actually went up a lot more than small local or regional brands. I suspect part of that was a coordinated attack on Biden+opportunistic gouging

It’s exhausting, but we need to push back on every one of their lies. Otherwise, they normalize their alternative reality. So please support Aaron’s journalism, especially financially, if you can. It’s invaluable.

Derek Van Orden is also trying to eliminate the motorcycle helmet requirement in D.C. He believes all Americans should pay a premium to care for underinsured brain-injured patients who survive inevitable crashes b/c Derek doesn’t like wearing a helmet. That=prime example of Republican policymaking.

These lies don’t work because people know how much they pay at the grocery store. Inflation was high for a time under Biden coming out of Covid but it was back down under 3 percent by the end of his term. We all remember.
