Tillis on Hegseth: "I made a mistake, but based on the data I had at the time I'd do the same again"

"I made a mistake, but I will never take the time to understand the depth of the problem and truly prevent it from happening again." -all republicans for the last ten years

Denial — it didn't happen Minimization — it happened, not that bad Deflection — it's a different thing, over here >>> Revisionism — nobody could have known it Propaganda — it's actually hugely successful

Um, the "data" you had at the time was that Hegseth was a morning show host with zero command experience, a severe drinking problem and a mom who considered her own son a predator.

SMH…Tillis is straddling the fence to keep his political ties in tact. The writing was on the wall with Hegseth. His own mom, said he was abusive and needed help but somehow Tillis thought that data was qualifying? History will remember Tillis as a self serving coward, with the rest of the GOP.

So not even willing to do the right thing even now? Shame on Thom Tillis. Looking forward to seeing Democrat Roy Cooper take this office.

There's zero acknowledgement by Tillis that he should have done legit research like everyone that voted against Hegseth. He just assumes his base is dumb enough not to catch that.

Okay Tillis, but many of us had data at the time that would have prevented us from making the mistake you made, so maybe step aside and let one of us who makes better use of information to avoid this kind of mistake cover your job, eh?

Good grief. We can all be thankful that he's not running for re-election and will likely be replaced by Roy Cooper. NC, and, indeed, all of America, deserve to have senators with better judgment.

No one pushes back and asks how he thought a Fox News host with zero qualifications should lead DOD. @arimelber.bsky.social didn't push back either. You are a SENATOR and should be making your own decisions. Why did YOU think he was qualified? Make him squirm until he answers. DO YOUR JOB, PRESS!

Even the data at that time wasn’t a compelling reason to confirm him. He was fully unqualified from the get go and continues to prove that. He has caused immediate and long term harm to the military.

You have to understand Cassie, being a senator isn’t a real job. If it was a real job, they wouldn’t do it into our 90s. They can do it even if they’re technically brain dead. With a real job you retire and live out your golden years on your pension. Being a senator is not a real job. Data

He thought he had enough data to install a weekend talk show host with a drinking problem as secretary of defense? Shorter Tillis: I would have done a better job had I not been a soulless incompetent hack.

Tillis is the ultimate asshole. "I was right, have always been right, will always be right, even when I was wrong, I know I was wrong, I knew I was wrong and even admitted I was wrong."

…how about saying what Trump said about any city that is a part of The USofA, Trump is currently the President of The United States of America…no?

The evidence that a guy who was a drunk, adulterer, unqualified, white nationalist, self-inflated service record having TV hack wasn't sufficient to prevent voting for the DefSec? WTF evidence is needed to vote against? What is too far?

Ya that's what happens when you live an unexamined life. So fucking sure you're right you never stop to reflect on your own or humanity's past. It's a character flaw not something to be proud of you fucking numbskull

The data you had at the time was that he was a drunk domestic abuser, and constituents like me made sure you knew that before you voted to confirm him. Maybe if you had actually listened to your voters?

Has he thought about any of the hundreds of things that he, as a US Senator, could have done to GET MORE DATA?

He goes around trying to act like the rebel leader…when he was a card carrying member of the cult until he got on the cult leader’s bad side. And now he’s using his retirement balls to carve out some kind of future from the party who loathes him.He should shut up and just go away

We’re watching in real time the entitled white man, of which this country is based, do what they do best: play the hero or victim in every scenario while simultaneously be unable to take accountability for their own actions. The hat my friends is for the rest of us.

"Data I had at the time." He was an alcoholic television personality that had some national guard experience and didn't believe in gems. Interested to understand what data Tillis references here.

So you would make a terrible decision twice. Unsurprised. Many of us would make the right choice to vote no with the same or less information than you had senator. It doesnt take much to see he is incompetent and a loser.

Suuuure, it’s not like he was an unqualified fOx weekend host with a history of racism and sexual violence - those were basic facts when republicans confirmed him.
