We couldn’t possibly be in a worse information environment for what’s happening. Which is probably, in part, why it’s happening.

Turns out having an algorithm to show people only what people like them want to see is incredibly bad for social education. Who knew? There are ways to address this, but so long as we continue within the confines of the current media environment there is little to challenge those who take advantage

these terrible, idiotic networks that enabled the idiocy — it turns out — perpetuate the idiocy, magnify the idiocy, multiply and entrench the idiocy

Millions of Americans are SO easily fooled it's scary. They believe that America is the John Wayne of the world. They believe that Trump is the mega-boss of The Apprentice. They can't tell the difference between tv and reality. Now wait till AI fully fires up. Scary!

Real journalism was totally unprepared to figure out how migrate away from print and monetize their work, as the information age stampeded into our society. They made themselves ripe for that corporate takeover, and takeover corporate certainly did.

It's the only reason we are in this environment. The mainstream media is a major player in the coup and should absolutely be held responsible when the reckoning comes. CBS, FOX, NYT, WP...any and all of them should be banned for treason. Without consequences (J6) it will happen again.

I feel like this level of shitstorm and corruption has probably occurred before, but in a pre-internet society hardly anyone would know, or find out, or believe it. Maybe that's why investigative journalists have become so lazy, they're becoming used to the public knowledge just being sent to them.

Not to mention education. When I found out how lacking our "American history" education was later as an adult, I felt kinda scared and betrayed. Like we've been lying to kids for so long to sell a version of America that never existed

Like I had a textbook talking about "states rights" in the civil war chapter. And I grew up in a Blue state. Then you get to college and see what a cat o' nine tails does to a human being. I get not wanting to overwhelm kids but idk maybe we should be afraid and disgusted of our past at a young age

I think becoming an adult without understanding what adults before you have done, whether good or bad, to make the world how it is today is to risk making those same mistakes again. Which, for the people asking us to forget, seems to be the point.
