I wrote this in 2017. I don’t think I’d word it exactly the same now, but it lays out my thoughts on American apartheid pretty succinctly.

I emailed Patrick Healy, assistant managing editor for standards and trust at NYT, to ask why their story about a House report with new details of rape allegations against the President of the United States included neither those details, nor a single use of the word "rape." archive.is/1s9AM

The NYT story does not even include the word rape. Not once.
I read the NYT piece earlier, and I had no idea there was a new rape allegation against the president until I saw this thread. The closest the Times got to saying there’s a new allegation was “it largely cites allegations that have already been public.”

When people tell you both parties are the same, ask them why all the oligarch money goes to the GOP

The degree to which stigma over mental health issues, neurodivergence, sexual orientation and a range of other issues/experiences/identities has been decreased. There's a reason they're going after empathy, and it's because people/society really did become more tolerant over the past 50 years.
Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Very telling every other reporter actually stayed quiet while Trump berated at the NBC lady
😳 WOMAN REPORTER: Do sexual abuse allegations mean nothing to you, sir? TRUMP: Wait. Wait! Wait wait wait. Slow down. Who are you with? REPORTER: NBC, sir. But they are very serious sex abuse allegations TRUMP: Quiet! Isn't she a fresh person? You're a horrible little reporter, aren't you?

Can't believe this adjudicated sexual assaulter who is hiding the evidence about his relationship to the world's most notorious child sex trafficker is praising the woman who sided with her child's rapist to abandon her own kid
Trump: "Ramaswamy put up a very powerful Ad about a mother saying that her daughter, Acton, is a liar, and much worse. The Press is trying to get him to 'take down the Ad.' Frankly, anybody whose mother spoke about daughter that way would normally lead to the daughter being precluded from serving"
This is why our oligarchs (and their lapdogs in the GOP and the press) are so attached to the lie that only some Americans are legitimate. It lets them claim to be on the side of democracy. “Real Americans” is a load-bearing myth that lets apartheid call itself majority rule.
It’s fine if they steal Supreme Court seats or do anything else that gets them power, because they are the only legitimate holders of power in America It’s nefarious for us to seek power in any way, because we are not legitimate.
“Their definition of patriotism is intertwined to the core with a sense of “their kind of people” owning the country. The Rights of the Constitution belong to them by default, and to the rest of us as they see fit, the 1st and 2nd Amendments and right to vote being prime examples.”
“To Republicans, the government is legal and patriotic when it protects minority rule [by straight white Christian men], and a lawless plot when it doesn’t… So they vote for demographic minority rule. And the GOP gives it to them with a side of plutocracy.”

America has always been an argument between a wealthy few, who rule over, enslave, exclude & exploit others & a "we the people" who have dreamed, died, struck & protested to make the promise of "liberty & justice" be for all, no exceptions. The many can take on the money when we unite.
El-Sayed: "People like Vance think America is too small for some of us. I think America is big enough. America has been big enough include people whose families came, were here before anybody else showed up, or who were brought here despite themselves. His view of America is small -- small like him"

So-called meritocracies (like the neoliberal university) will always struggle to produce equity. Because privileged groups can determine the definition of merit and control the means by which such merit is achieved.
Democrats are still stuck in "workforce readiness" and the transactional job training paradigm of the neoliberal university. The Republican Party, conversely, as it's moved toward fascism and authoritarianism, has rediscovered that the things we believe about our country and its people matter.

We knew this onslaught was coming. We're seeing a tsunami of spending from tech and capital in general, aimed at saving the Senate. To confront this, we need to turn it against the donors. That's why I've been begging all Dems to do what WisDems did & Talarico has been forced to do: Torch Elon.

What Dems in Ohio need to close with is, Max Miller assaults his girlfriends, wife and child, Jim Jordan permitted the sexual abuse of wrestlers in his care, and Vivek sides with child rapists. In Ohio, a vote for the GOP is a vote for the party embracing sexual and domestic violence.
