Split your lungs with blood and thunder When you see the white whale Break your backs and crack your oars men If you wish to prevail! This ivory leg is what propels me Harpoons thrust in the sky Aim directly for his crooked brow And look him straight in the eye! WHITE WHALE! HOLY GRAIL!

Russians are about tragedies. Enslaved by the tsars as serf’s Enslaved by the Bolsheviks as serf’s. Enslaved by the communists as serf’s. Enslaved by the oligarchs as serf’s And how they never complain on their knees about starving, freezing to death, or dying for their serf masters.

Meanwhile the intention of the author was to wrap his barely disguised essay on whale biology in something one could perhaps consider "plot" and call it a novel...

LOVE it. I never could read Moby Dick, I liked the whale too much and just wanted Ahab to feed the sea creatures. However, methinks thou hast missed the Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc. novels.

That's only if you categorize Ahab as the protagonist. If the narrator himself is the protagonist, it's more like: "I go to sea whenever I begin to have intrusive thoughts about jumping off a cliff. I really enjoy squeezing the lumps out of the spermaceti oil. It's a sensual experience."

And current global dystopian corporatists…to regress their age with blood infusions while destroying the climate to consolidate their wealth while hoping Mars is terraformed real soon

Or ponder the significance of every bottle of whisky (and/or whiskey) you have ever run across for at least 40 pages. There will also be a cat, who, possibly, is mystical in some intangible way.
