This chart is insane. This shows Russia's casualties over time compared to Russia's territorial gains in Ukraine over the last five years. No sane or rational person would say continuing the war to try and take more of Ukraine's territory is worth the casualties.

No, it won't. Putin doesn't want to meet Zelensky, and Trump isn't going to push him.

A meeting with Putin may take place during the G20 summit in the United States - President Zelenskyy Washington is considering a proposal for trilateral talks between Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia. Other possible venues include the UAE, Saudi Arabia, or a European country.

Many people have a wrong idea about what US intelligence sharing with Ukraine is. In reality it's largely early warnings about air strikes so Ukrainians can seek shelter. This requires US satellites. But it looks like Trump might have instructed his military to stop giving Ukrainians that warning.

For the second evening in a row, Zelensky says Ukraine received no warning from Western partners before Russia launched ballistic missiles at Kyiv. Tuesday’s strike hit a key energy facility and damaged a residential building, he said. meduza.io/en/news/2026...

It's important to recognise is that this *isn't* about the US getting "back" to business with Russia, because there's never been much US-Russia business of any kind beyond arms control. What the Trump admin is pushing for is an unprecedented alignment of the US with Russia.

Maybe the most amazing aspect of the Russo-Ukraine War is that Russia is getting backing from both China and the USA, the two largest powers of the moment--and Ukraine could still emerge triumphant as long as Europe backs it stoutly.

I don't see anything erratic here. For over a decade, Trump has prioritised "getting along with Russia"; since 20 January 2025, Trump administration policy has reflected that priority. It's perhaps the most consistent aspect of Trump foreign policy. 🧵on Trump and sanctions.

If you believe this, I have a bridge to sell you. The prime directive of the Conservative Party is to get and hold power. The idea that it would risk throwing away the opportunity merely because it involved an albeit uncomfortable arrangement with another right-wing party is clearly for the birds.

Not even a hint of, “Putin could stop the war today and withdraw his occupation troops back to Russia. But right now Russia does not want to do that”. Why are the US ‘negotiations’ so unbelievably one sided?

If Serbia insists on burying Maladić with state honours, that is its sovereign prerogative. However such a move would be entirely inconsistent with being a candidate for EU membership, and the accession process should be formally suspended as a result.
