Think we’re witnessing genuine flop-sweat from the same cadre of profoundly dull contrarian columnists who have been getting grossly overpaid for writing the same boring column with minor variations since 2015. Being tiresome on Twitter was a core part of their shtick, and it’s not working here.

The top pundits on twitter got there largely by being first and sustaining network effects over time. Many would not become famous if they started over on their merits, which is what moving to Bluesky will entail.

The fact that their dumb owning the libs act isn’t translating well over here is an interesting indicator that Twitter was very much designed to prop up talentless hacks whose only talent was being shitty to minorities while using the occasional mid-scoring SAT word.

Anyway, these pathetic creatures are sustained by pissing off the libs, and the best thing you can do to cut them off from the Outrage Teat they depend on is just blocking them. Preferably, pretend you’ve never heard of them at all. They hate that shit.

The Centrist Columnist Mediocrity Class will respond with their sole defense mechanism: shrieking and emitting slime in the pages of rapidly declining legacy media publications, while, somehow, blaming The Queers. Let them. We don’t have to care what they think anymore. We never did.

Centrist Columnist Mediocrities are a lot like hagfish, albeit without the charm and with far more irrational dislike for minorities. Hagfish may have unpleasant personal habits, but I’ve never met one who wanted to talk to me about how the scientific racism creeps have a point.

"...We never did." Y'all are smarter than me. I cared a lot. I walked away from my favorite newspaper, WaPo, after the non-endorsement. My progressive family members and I were subscribers for decades. The WaPo is dead to me now, but the departed's absence has left a hole in my gut.

I’ve seen plenty of “this shitty person from twitter is here, you should block them.” And then I go to block them only to find that a blocklist has already done it for me. It’s nice.

it came after *gutting* the Trust and Safety orgs and removing safeguards. It wasn't so easy to treat people like garbage on there as recently as 3 or 4 years ago. Hence why Musk complained about "so much liberal bias" that needed "fixing". We need to make sure this place keeps that stuff intact!

indeed. he's newly, and just this very moment, active here. and instead of... royal mode he's preaching the virtues of "listening" and how much he hates the people who... he hangs out with

I'm glad I finally looked it up, because I had previously only seen people who also talked about sports using the term, so I thought it had to do with "flopping" as in pretending to get fouled as a way to work the refs. ... which almost works in context 80% of the time when discussing news media!
