Seems like a problem that most every smart liberal and left wing writer, researcher, analyst, and NGO worker I know is unemployed, grossly underpaid, or in a super unstable job, while a bunch of 20 year old Nazis with the talent and expertise of ass hair are getting paid $300K to post on Twitter.

Almost all of the smartest liberal and left wing writers and reporters I know have basically been reduced to doing that work as a mostly-unpaid hobby in addition to their actual job (if they have a job). Just a few rich Democrats could put their money where their mouth is and fix this.

And those two examples are telling in and of themselves; Matty started out as a pro-war contrarian and has only ever doubled down on contrarianism, while Ezra has been steadily tacking towards the center right ever since he transcended the early-aughts blogosphere

I mean, I don't know how you can look at what he was writing at Pandagon 20 years ago and what he's doing now, who he's in conversation with and what agendas he's supporting, and *not* immediately see that he's tacked significantly to the right over the course of his career

And this very much connects to the Dobson news. As a Peace Corps volunteer in South Africa I tagged along to a free workshop for teachers that turned out to be from FotF. Don't really even remember the details, except that it sucked, but there's always money in the RW banana stand.

I’m pretty confident if we motivated our poaster talent, we could absolutely break the way too online core of the current right and get them to do publicly all sorts of bananas stuff to alienate most of the population. Most of the staff at all levels of the right live half their free time on X

Its crazy that Mark Cuban basically bemoaned the lack of "incentives" in place to entice billionaires into putting resources behind liberal and/or progressive media orgs. Like what was the incentive for pouring money into the Free Press? Does TPUSA have a mad-good pitch deck or something?

it's the air america effect all over again rich dems aren't willing to spend the money it takes to make their message stick and spread organically; they getting the message out there is good enough it's why right-wing propaganda is free and the truth is behind a paywall

I’m old enough to remember how ThinkProgress withered away because CAP couldn’t find a wealthy progressive willing to take over for them (nor were they willing to keep it going themselves). I may still be bitter.
