Texas has decided public schools should teach Noah's Ark, the Burning Bush, Adam & Eve, and more as required reading. It's terrible news for religious freedom. It's also terrible news for Christianity itself. www.friendlyatheist.com/p/texas-just...

Ooooh, so that's what happened to former Secretary of Education for The State of Oklahoma, Ryan "coke nose" Walters. Rejected his chump Nazi ass right into Texas. I wonder how long it'll be before Texas takes lowest 50th in literacy and cognitive thinking? Haha right wing "thunk tanks"

It could be fun to be in the inevitable group goofing they’ll give those texts. I don’t know which the people pushing this are less clear on: the content of those fables, or the attitude of school kids with nothing to do but read & discuss them. There’s going to mocking of biblical proportions.

The bigger problem is that Texas has had to hire untrained teachers because they’re unwilling to pay living wages…a good college educated instructor could create a very interesting curriculum around mythology and social science. But they are hiring fewer qualified people in Texas a recent report.

No. Do not do that. Keep your child there. Make it clear they are NOT tk participate in writing, and sue the school, the district, and the state. Insist the Bible be banned based on THEIR criteria. Incest, violence, rape, sex, prostitution, and genocide.

Here’s the part religious zealots don’t mention: kids ask questions. We teachers provide answers. Example: Student (S): how’d Noah get all those animals on one boat? Me (teacher/T) I have no idea. S: how’d they keep predators from eating prey? T: No clue. S: Why’d God make the flood?…

Right? They pushed for the 10 commandments in schools so I wonder how parents are answering the “what does adultery mean?” They’re apoplectic about being “forced” to explain why Susie has 2 dads/moms (which you can do w/o mentioning sex) go ahead and explain adultery without explaining sex.

So, teaching the creation, Noah, and Moses's story is violation of constitution, and brainwashing kids with the LGBTQ agenda saying your biological identity doesn't matter that it's okay to cut off your sexual organ, and teaching the story that humans are from monkeys, that doesn't violate anything!

I wonder if belief in ridiculous conspiracy theories as adults is somehow related to being forced in childhood to believe literally in some of the more unlikely tales in the Bible, on pain of eternal damnation.

School lessons are not sermons and kids are not stupid. I predict Texas teachers are going to get kicked all over their own classrooms. Start with Mark 16:18, and don’t forget to bring teacher a nice cup of Drano.

I hope somebody petitions the supreme court against this. Texas is truly becoming a Communist state where the government controls everything and now they want to control religion. If you live there i would seriously considering moving to a free state.

Are you sure about that? I saw a report that only the New Testament was to be required reading. It is irritating that 'news' sources can't be bothered to accurately report facts.

Read,"Idiot America"by Charles Pierce. He WARNED us 30 YRS AGO! GOP PASSED #CitizensUnited, LETS 1% BUY OUR Reps, GOP"Patriot Act"TOOK OUR PRIVACY by Bush, Voters did nothing 🤷 Now ending VOTING RIGHTS is called "Save Act" GIVE ME A BREAK! It only "saves" GOP PEDIPHILES who voted NO on Epstein files.

The "SaveAct" is a GOP BS lie. The "Patriot Act" ended our PRIVACY RIGHTS. "Citizens United" allows 1% to purchase Legislators. This BS "Save Act" only saves GOP CRIMINALS AND TAKES AWAY OUR VOTING RIGHTS. GOP always fool, fools with names that are lies. Mm mm

Notice that Christian Nationalists NEVER want Christ's own teachings to be read or posted. Always the Old Testament 'Commandments;' never the New Testament Beatitudes.

The ignorance and idiocy of christianity, and other bullshit called religion, writ large. How to make your children stupid in ONE EASY STEP! Next: Hey kids, learn to love guns and killing people christians hate!! Do so, and YOU TOO might get a chance to lick tRump's ASS! Mmmm.

Christianity is a failing religion and is begging the government to prop it up. If it would focus more on what Jesus (allegedly) taught like taking care of the poor and treating others with respect it would not need the government to pursue indoctrination.

They won’t allow the kids anywhere near the teachings of Christ. They’ll provide carefully edited lessons that reinforce Christian nationalism. But kids are not so easily steered.

There is no question this is Unconstitutional. Our founders specifically & intentionally separated the Church from the State for extremely valid reasons. Bc the Church was persistent in laying war as a matter of faith. And that dynamic persists. It is essential that these interests never ally bc/1

The desire for world domination is always the end result. With religion you either have faith (blindly) or you are the enemy/evil/a sinner to be vanquished. There is no compromise or peaceful coexistence when religious fervor takes hold. 6 centuries of religious wars taught that lesson well. /2

That’s very blatantly unconstitutional. Are they just trying to see if they can get away with it? What happens if someone of a different religion or an atheist that doesn’t believe in the Bible says that’s not what we believe or that’s not what science says?

Yes indeed because part of a great America is ‘Religious Freedom’ free to practice whatever religion suits you & your family’! 😡along with our other freedoms of free speech, freedom of the press, etc which this 💩GOP Epstein class administration wants us not to have!

At least it is a good chance to ask your kids things like "did the teacher say how penguins got from the South Pole to the Ark?" Or for a teacher to make this part of a unit on myths from all over the world. Does the law define "teach?"

I mistakenly put my kids in a evil lutheran sc AFT 9/11. My son came home distraught when his teachertold him that Muslims believed in another God. I told my son to ask his teacher why he believed there were more than one Gods. Shortly after that, I PUT hem in a public school, where they belonged

The stories of Noahs Ark, the burning bush & Adam & Eve are all from the old testament, which is the history of the Jews. It predates Christianity & the Christian message. Judaism does not recognise Christ as either a prophet or the Messiah. Sounds like the curriculum is the Noachides.

All teachers are supposed to do is teach it. Not call it fact. Teachers can teach the Bible as the most impactful book of fiction out there. Or about how people cherry pick the things they teach. Or the side of the Bible where girs are sold into slavery, or a pair that raped their dad.

Christian values: — love thy neighbor… but not THAT neighbor who doesn’t look or think like you —don’t covet thy neighbor’s wife, unless you attend our church every Sunday —-entertain strangers, only not the ones from outside your borders —-don’t idolize false gods, unless it’s the president

What part of the "Establishment Clause" of the Constitution of the United States of America do they not understand? I don't think they put in any exception for red necked ignorant Texas, especially since it didn't even exist at the time.

WHICH Bible Me Hearties? That redacted version The Protestant "King James Bible" Orrrrrr "The New American Bible" the one favored By The One True Apostolic Church of Rome?

I'm so glad my kids never had to go thru that shit. I was lucky enough that my family wasn't real religious until someone went to prison, that's when I figured out it was all bullshit. Sadly, most of the people pushing religion don't believe it themselves by their actions.

Uh oh... going to have to learn the cubits to feet/yards conversion. It's so weird, other than the Bible, there is no other record of Adam or Eve ever existing, since it was repeated as lore for many eons until writing and printing was invented.

evangelical fundamentalists using public schools for recruitment, they already got youth pastors in them disguised as guidance counselors, middle school kids required to read Genesis is not english class but religion class, reading must be discussed as religious text & not critiqued or criticized

My dad went to a Christian school and knew the bible very well. But as an adult he used to invite the local clergyman in to try to convert him to atheism. So I guess enforced religious reading doesn't always go according to plan.

I thought I read somewhere that this sort of government dictated religion was against some official document, its name is on the tip of my tongue, I think it starts with a C.

indoctrinating christian nationalism into red state youth. a dangerous precedent. as a christian (NOT a nationalist one), i am deeply offended by the right's disregard and lack of respect for the faiths (or lack thereof) of others who do not fit their agenda.

The quickest way to drive someone away from Christianity is to teach them what the bible actually says and let them compare that to the Christians in their own lives

That actually is the approach we use with our kids. I tell them Christanity isn't inherently bad, but there are a lot of practitioners who really don't know or practice thier own religion. I do the same for all religions, they will make thier own choices in time.

"When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt"

The only thing those stories have in common other than being included in the Bible is that none of them are historically accurate or scientifically factual in any way. If I were teaching in Texas, I'd have to include other mythologies' take on similar events for context.

I believe this comes from those wonderful Christians who want to impose their ideology on everyone. Already got part of it with the overturn of Roe v Wade. They don't want religious freedom. Beware Americans!

Did you even read the article? The amount of readings is tiny. For example, in 8th grade, students will read Chapter 3 of Ecclesiastes while studying Lois Lowry's The Giver. That's the only Bible reading listed for the entire year. And no Holocaust denial that year (Elie Wiesel is on the list).

What does "sealion" mean? Genuinely asking. Is it a typo? I'm old, don't know a lot of stuff. How do you feel about the Peanuts Christmas Special and Linus's speech? It's not like the Bible is evil, just that evil people are currently hijacking it. Don't play their game and go way overboard.

Whelp, there is such a thing as cultural literacy. The most Bible reading I have done in my life was in an AP English class. And "required" is not mentioned in what I saw. Are other texts/myths explicitly excluded? I don't believe so. The kids will be alright, Ecclesiastes won't damage them.

Ok Texas. Now do the genocide of the Amakelites, followed by the books of Ruth and Song of Solomon. You can follow it up with Lot's drunken incestuous fling with his daughters.

I'm sure its fine. They probably just want to teach kids the part about how to beat your slaves, or how much to pay the father after raping the daughter you are then forced to marry. /s Texas Republicans: Leading the way backwards.

This could actually generate new slang terms as they inadvertently scheduled a block of time for mocking the Bible as group activity for teens. They think those kids are locked in there with the Bible, they’re gonna find out the Bible is locked in there with those kids.

A reminder that the US Constitution contains not one single mention of God or Christianity. And here is what some of the Founding Fathers had to say about that

the ultimate goal is to get this before the 6 repub justices so they will say the constitution really means religion is allowed, bring back prayer, have religion classes & clubs, recruit those kids, teach the white ones to procreate like rabbits

But the federalist society… are a pack of tyrannical liars, that want everything given to them. They think…that they are Privileged. What We, The People need, is a second revolution, to straighten all these “privileged” idiots out. And if anybody would read the constitution? No religion mentioned.

Galileo Galilei was brought before the Catholic Church's Roman Inquisition twice (1616 and 1633) for championing heliocentrism—the theory that the Earth revolves around the Sun. The Church deemed this heretical because it appeared to contradict literal interpretations of the Bible.

Eisenhower added “under god” to the pledge in 1954. He also established “in god we trust “ as our motto in 1956. I guess we were founded in the mid 50’s after WWII 🤷‍♂️

Hence the need to obliterate public education and allow the social media Propaganda Machine / Memory Hole to fester on with absolute impunity. Can't have people knowing things!

I remember my daughter came home from her cousin's church with a paper that interpreted the Adam & Eve story as Eve being "weak and vulnerable" because she was without Adam. It's the canned interpretations of these texts that have me the most worried.

Class Please open you Bibles to Ezekiel 23:20. “There she lusted after her lovers, whose penises were like those of donkeys and whose ejaculations were like that of horses.”

I just finished reading the Pulitzer Prize winning “Summer for the Gods,” Edward J Larsen’s cover text and character rich history of the Scope’s Trial with a new afterward that connects to today. If you want to give yourself perspective on TX, try this

When any government starts pushing religion it's only a matter of time before they start hunting heritics. Never forget during the dark ages, Catholics were burned in Protestant countries & Protestants were burned in Catholic ones. Very few pass a religious purity test. Don't bet that you will!

Which version of Christianity? In my hometown of 16,000 people, there are 16 different Christian churches. And maybe I think the differences are small -- but they don't. Which is fine, that's what religious freedom is all about. This ain't it.
