I've seen this before it's pretty funny, but it's more accurate to say he did what everyone else is doing first. Him not being beholden to corporate interests is what keeps him winning.

I would be really careful about acting like Steam is better on AI with all the asset flip slop on there with very obviously AI gen'd thumbnails it's not theirs, but they allow it and that's not really any better

Valve has also does even worse shit, like allowing gambling 3rd party sites to use their existing gambling assets to make several underground online casinos. They're not infallible, but a AAA game for $4 is a AAA game for $4. Also the image is just funny

There go my hopes of them eventually adding AI disclosures like Steam or AI tags like itch. 😩

Looking into it, I can tell they did it to *sigh*........save money Like HOW HARD IS IT TO JUST FUCKING HIRE SOMEBODY?!? FOR ARTWORK

I feel like they've been using a ton of AI art on their facebook page, and mostly hiding it away from BlueSky cause they know "The audience doesn't like that." They should probably hire PR people that's not made up of assholes. They seem to have this issue constantly.

Okay so. Anybody else weirded out by the fact they also keep advertising games they don't own the rights to? I know they're pushing the GOG Dreamlist stuff, but they couple it with advertising consoles and games they cannot possibly carry. Also talks a -lot- about PlayStation for some reason.

At this point, if some big platform start to advertise jumping from bridge, all other platform start to advertise same. Without spending a single thought on consequences. I can't belive they are giving a flying duck about what the community thinks.

Well fuck, I guess I'm not buying more from GoG then. I have a pretty big library, so I'm hoping they back off of AI soon. My steam library is hovering around 1k-ish games, but I like the DRM free software on GoG. Definitely not supporting generative images/videos though, for that clanker tech.

Sees title. "Surely there's some plausible deniability here." Sees image. "Nope, there isn't." Props to the employee for speaking on it, though. Dude better not get punished for it.

Nah he HAS to get punished for it. As the article states, if we just start going “it’s just a banner, it’s just a placeholder” they’ll keep moving the goalposts Using genAI like this is not doing your job, laziness should be punished.

GOG Execs, in my imagination: "How bad of PR is it to use AI images, do you think? Really...that bad? Hm...but I can save like $40 on this art bill right now if I stab our artists in the back and use this AI that stole their work..."

I wrote them a small suggestion ticket case to them about that. A storefront, with one of the core values being preserving video games which can be considered as artistic works, using generative AI comes off as two faced to me

Feedback submitted. Would recommend everyone else do the same (Bluesky posts might not reach the right people). It's simple, we do no buy anything until it's removed and an apology is issued.
