Rather than move forward with spinoffs that cling to the original The Lord of the Rings movies, maybe the time has come to give the franchise a full, Harry Potter-style reboot. https://bit.ly/4rY74wY

Rather than adapt even SLIGHTLY new stories, why not do the exact same stories AGAIN, like the massive bigot who can't write and just sits in her castle fuming online about trans people all day

And the entertainment industry continues to be ruled by executives terrified to give original IPs a single chance. "Oh, you want to make a show out of that popular new book series that's sold 20 million copies and has a rabid fanbase? Nah, I'd rather spend a billion dollars on LOTR fanfiction."

Jackson's first 3 movies are still amazing. Most of us would prefer new IP rather than constant reboots of stories we already know. I like stories where I don't actually know how it ends.

Sure, some of the CGI looks a bit dated now, but the forced perspective stuff is still great and the cast is fantastic. Does dated CGI really justify an entire new movie series? We'd end up with endless spin-offs too. Samwise's life before the journey. Gimli learning to use an axe, etc. Ugh.

Moden CG also looks bad though. It doesn't need an update! I'm glad you understand it's a you issue, but like...stuff like matte paintings are good. Modern audiences should appreciate the art that story telling was doing

Whether you like Rings of Power or not*, the Tolkien estate gave licensing permission to Amazon/MGM over other competitors specifically because every other bidder just wanted to do LOTR again. *it's still better than those fuckin' Hobbit movies.

The past time of taking perfect foreign-made creations and defecating on them with amateurish, dumbed-down knockoffs must end. Can anyone say for certain that Sauron would be defeated in a remake out of fear of offending the PDF file class?

why dont we just move on to new things? or if we are going to reboot old things get like the universal monsters

Reboots/remakes stopped being appealing in the 2000s. Fellowship came out 25 years ago, but still feels just as "modern" as any blockbuster released today (if not more). It made more sense to remake a movie when 25 years was the difference between a movie from the early 70s & one from the late 90s.
