The court's own Purcell Principle says you can't make changes close to an election, Seems to me that once primaries are happening (La) or getting close (like deadlines for petitioning to be on ballot), it is too late to even think about redistricting. But I guess precedents are no longer important.

Entirely appropriate to refer to the 6 justices as Republican. "Conservative" does not describe all their decisions, but party affiliations does. Some of them served for years as Party operatives to make their bones, to earn the confidence of Republican presidents that they would vote Republican.
