Casey Newton says he simply HAS to return to using a right wing propaganda website owned by an overt white supremacist, because that's where the AI bros are there was simply no way to effectively cover the industry without submerging himself in sewage, we are told

they're overt, unapologetic nazis, dude the CEO literally and documentably killed millions of people, and that's just his bumbling with USAID

"I had to do the salute to maintain my access for the interview. I had to say the words, to maintain my access for the interview. I had to participate on the island..." They either like what they're doing or are selfish enough to promote it for money. Either way it feels like an addiction to hate.

"they're overt, unapologetic nazis, dude" You're just describing AI fans in general. Of course Nazis flock to a nazi platform.

(people at Bluesky were actively and appropriately hostile to his conflicts of interest (he's engaged to somebody at anthropic), boosterism, and anthropomorphizing of software)

I am embarrassed for and by every last journalist that uses Elon Musk's right wing propaganda website, though I enjoy the elaborate, flimsy scaffolding they construct for themselves to justify it

yeah it's not like a disagreement over drapes it's a ring of historically-corrupt fascist pedophiles

It would be nice if we didn’t hound people off Bluesky. This CAN be a great place for AI discussions actually! But it takes a lot of blocking to get to the point where you’re not barraged by abuse when you mention it

"My audience of gullible morons and frauds is largely on a platform presided over by Mechahitler's father. I regret the circumstances but I must return to them to engage in Discourse. Surely this 5000 word treatise will convince how truly conflicted I am and absolve me of this feigned guilt."

(this dude lost his credibility so long ago, it actually pisses me off when I see him publish things back on the verge, which thankfully hasn't happened for a while)

What in the world does he mean by “the stakes of the AI conversation have risen”? I really, really hate it when journalists use language like this—okay, I get it, you’re blogging and not doing journalism, but not everyone *gets* that, Mr. Newton.😡

If someone described the difference between me and Elon Musk as mere “disagreement” I would never recover

This satirical conversation probably never happened. Nazi: "I'm a Nazi! Here, have a cookie. From a Nazi!" Casey Newton: "While you and I may have disagreements, I think we can all agree that cookies are great!" Nazi: "Nazi cookies!" Newton: "... just give me the fucking cookie."

I think the more important question to ask Casey is what part(s) of the TESCREAL acronym does he identify with? Choosing to pickle one’s brain on X and socialize with “sources” who participate in the xrisk/LessWrong group house parties is well beyond his lame self-rationalizations.

Back when I was a journalist , I covered radicalized Christian militant networks that killed and maimed women’s health providers. I didn’t hang out with them, ffs.

is it unreasonable to ask an industry purportedly dedicated to the truthful dissemination of factual information to show the slightest fucking ethical backbone and awareness?

Sadly I think a lot of people feel that way. Also I think it’s a bit sad that reading and regurgitating people’s tweets is what “coverage” is now. I get it though, ya gotta eat.

Leaving your prestigious media gig to try to influence a few rich, rightwing chuds who spend 18 hours a day doing virtual phrenology while their AI waifu build out the new arbitrage apps that are going to lead to the next economic crash. Also: they still won't listen to you.

I have followed Casey’s work for a long time, and had already been disappointed with his ongoing collaboration with known dolt Kevin Roose, but this announcement caused me to stop subscribing to his newsletter and generally stop listening to anything he has to say
