In a private discussion today this came up: “We need the January 6th Commission hearings, for DOGE.” One could do a lot with NIH and NSF alone. There are clinical trials that ended, patients that died, young people leaving the US… and bad stuff that happened inside the agencies.

“Elon Musk and his DOGE operatives ran roughshod over our government...& created real-world disasters that impacted 100s of thousands of lives. We need lawmakers who will commit to issuing subpoenas & launching immediate investigations into Musk’s actions...” www.aol.com/articles/adv...

This is the most promising avenue. Even trumpists don't take kindly to having their confidential PII stolen and leaked. Doge was a major data breach that's been very underreported.

Some people made off with a lot of data that they had no right to take, and probably committed crimes doing it. Some creepy organizations are out there mining social security or IRS data. But they need people to do it. People who might drop a dime on them for a big reward.

Was your boss rude to you today? Has he got you working on something that looks like social security data? Give us a call and earn a big share of the resulting fine.

By centering the access Doge granted itself to the confidential PII of millions of Americans, the public could be more supportive than abt foreign aid and scientific research many ppl don't connect to. I'm talking about trumpists who have anti-big gummint sentiments to begin with who might care.

Yep. Musk played a big role in that too and was the effective head of DOGE. Wrap it all into one months-long set of investigations and hearings.

I said we need the Senate Watergate Committee but for DOGE. I’m no Watergate expert (but my dad was at a Pennsylvania diner 😀 when Alexander Butterfield revealed the existence of the tapes ), but there was a huge investigatory staff, right? Do that.

One thing I learned from this excellent book on Watergate—effectively a diary which is very reminiscent of today and has helped me get through all this!—is that Butterfield’s revelation was discovered by investigatory staff, and the revelation was planned. www.amazon.com/Washington-J...

I think in historic terms, the impact of the Jan 6th Commission hearings are not going to rank particularly high on the list of effective accountability measures. We need an effective legal enforcement act that results in meaningful justice, lest folks be tempted to attempt French Remedies (TM)

We aren't ready yet for this. We need to get the DOJ and the Treasury back for an investigation at this scale which should include defrauding the US to gain the massive financial support of tax dollars for his ventures; election interference; and treason.

there is sufficient political will on the individual level, but has anyone above congress campaign volunteer even mentioned this? Do we have any elected leaders willing to address this? i'm pretty detached from the party so ymmv but i'm drawing a blank

This is the problem. Ppl are wishcasting all the great things Congress, with D majority, can/will do. But aside from a cadre of Progressives with limited clout, nobody's even campaigning on this stuff: m4a, wealth tax, expanded court, etc. No reason to expect Jeffries to change that much!

The January 6th hearings wasted time and in some ways protected certain people from being held accountable for their actions. Just set up special prosecutors to investigate the different actions done by Musk and his team and let them do their jobs.
