NYC is opening city grocery stores in every borough — and we need the right spaces to make it happen. If you own or know of a site in Brooklyn, Queens, or Staten Island, submit to the NYC Groceries Sites Portal by June 30: grocery.nyc/portal

How about promoting rooftop gardening & green scaping high rises like they're doing in Europe. Or make solar panels tax deductible & financing available. If we are sincere in combating climate change we must throw everything we can at the solution. We have no more time to waste.

Okay? I was not aware there were sections. Duly noted & thanks for the tip. But these ideas kinda spread even when they don't start in the right place. What matters is to start them, to get people thinking & researching & planning how is best to do it. Just a little inspiration can be amazing thing.

It is pretty awful, if I had the means I would have already gotten da fuck out, I been looking at jobs where they offer relocation assistance like animal sanctuaries lol

Ok, so now MAGA, you can scream about this being socialism. But for the people who live in food deserts because no private company will serve them, they don’t care. And it seems pretty MAHA to give poor people access to fresh produce. Making people’s lives better, what a weird idea.

Socialism is a GOOD IDEA that conservatives and RepubliNazis have tried to taint. They think if they disparage the word enough times, people will become afraid of it. They are petrified of good results because that makes them look bad…which they are‼️

Except what's happening here is far from actual socialism. Unfortunately, few in the U.S. are aware what the term actually means. What Mamdani is doing is just a bit of load sharing, like most European countries have been doing since WW2. It's reigned-in capitalism.

Mayor, I hope you NEVER LOSE SIGHT of what you came into office to do for your constituents. It’s refreshing to read about. And I hope the same thoughts and deeds of goodness makes its way to to other states.

I am so excited that you are doing this! I can't wait to see how this turns out. Grocery stores need competition to stop price gouging. This will help.

When people say the government can’t open grocery stores, I remind them that the government operates commissaries on every military installation. Good on you Mr. Mayor for doing this for your city.

One of NH's staples, other than no sales tax, are state run liquor stores. Anyone out of town always gets so confused when they can't find beer in one, but beer is found legit everywhere else 🤣 But I approve of more grocery stores!

Oregon is one. Washington used to be, but they went private sale and prices jumped up. We live in Oregon and don't mind at all going to the state liquor stores.

Because Costco and Walmart wanted to add to their profits. I think the state should have kept running their stores to ensure competitive pricing and prevent price gouging.

I worked for a large winery in California and it was often my job to entertain the liquor commissioners from the states that had state run stores that controlled wine. If we wanted to sell wine in those states, we had to win over the commissioners. We spent so much money showing them a good time.

Government run grocery stores are where it’s at. I shop at the McChord AFB commissary regularly. We save nearly $30 a week over shopping at Walmart, Kroger, or Albertson’s. The dirty secret is that DECA must keep each store profitable, and all profits must be reinvested back into the stores.

This is more important than people realize. This is Mamdani saying "I don't know everything, so I'd like to get your views on it." SO many people can't admit they don't know the answer, their ego will not allow it. Acknowledging your ignorance is how we learn and grow.

This is amazing! Living in Las Vegas there are huge “food deserts”- where actual groceries are miles away from some city residents- fast food and 7-11’s abound with virtually no healthy options at all. Kudos to you for supporting this, so good for NYC.

Wait. Are you sure you’re doing this right? You’re opening this to the masses? I thought the way it worked is that you’re supposed to offer a no bid contract for space to friends and family and take a cut of the action. No?

Those folks in opposition to this need to be reminded that the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT already SUCCESSFULLY operates THOUSANDS of HUGE retail stores, golf courses, restaurants, gas stations and more.....ALL OVER THE WORLD....in and around US Military installations.....to NO ONE'S objection.

Awesome! But please remember to slap alt text on those images, Mr. Mayor! You've done it before; please do keep doing it!

people still judge bsky in reference to other social media (cause duh) but even if it started as a twitter offshoot this is its own beast. "such a bsky post" good. we have our own sick and twisted dumpster fire social media platform and im proud

Alt text is short for alternative text. Another term for it is simply “image description” and it helps people who are blind or have low vision as well as other benefits.

oh no, you really used to use alt text all the time and this is the second post in a row that doesn't have any did someone new take up your social media? if so, alt text is part of the disability-inclusive culture of Bsky. Please do use it!

The post you're replying to answers your question in its first sentence, I think maybe you read it too fast 😅

Oh My God! Here’s a switch. Instead of big corporations asking the government for free land and tax forgiveness to become more profitable, the government is asking small businesses and landlords to partner up and help solve an economic problem. This is how you govern! 🙏💥🙏

Could you please source the produce from American farmers? If you need a transportation and supply chain expert with many years at the regional level for Walmart, let me know. I know someone.

the seeds of disdain are sown the nation is fertile with angst it is upon the commoner to rise no nation can withstand tyranny #30million8/30 30 million on August 30th. Imagine a march of 30,000,000 on August 30th. Now stop imagining and begin making it real. Sharing is caring, please repost.

Every community needs fresh, nutritious groceries. A foundational community need. This is a practical, functional, caring, economic, intersectional solution. Bravo 🙌

The smaller communities have bodegas and convenience type stores but the developers who've targeted the various areas don't care about access to good quality fresh produce and local producers etc A bit like farmers markets but permanent I think. I've been researching retail usage lately

Every day, I wake up and see the news. Sadly, I only read about you, and the amazing things you are doing, on social media. Mostly Bluesky. I don't see reports enough in any media, let alone the ones us old asses grew up with. Sigh. Can you go be born again, here, so not just NYC feels happy? :)
