we remain firmly on track for 'republican president leaves the country an omnishambles, next democratic president is punished for not cleaning it up fast enough'

absolutely. Hear anyone complaining about our budget deficit at the current moment? You can take it to the bank, the next time the Dems have control, we will hear about the deficit, ad infinitum, every freakin' day. I hope MSM will frame that more honestly, next time it happens.

Every fucking time. I tried to explain it to someone with the analogy of getting mad at someone who couldn't get a room painted because they were too busy fixing the holes some angry child put in the drywall first. Was told it was a stupid analogy because people don't do that.

the way you'd fix that is by the democratic president in question wreaking absolutely cartoonish amounts of revenge on the republicans but they probably still don't have the balls for that

with the crop of Dems we've got now, i expect them wholeheartedly to run on "nothing Trump did was actually BAD; what was BAD was we had a Republican in office; the kidnappings and genocide and general mayhem are GOOD AND NECESSARY for the world order; now let's get back to business as usual"

in twenty years the Dems will be giving fawning memorials to the Orange Fuhrer tearfully proclaiming that he was the President who Made America Great Again and all future presidents should aspire to his and Reagan's example

I still remember that great Atrios post from about a week after Election Day 2008. Hed: The Failed Obama Presidency Why hasn't he fixed everything yet?

At every stage the Democrats chose wanting to appear above politics rather than actually get shit done, and it resulted in the second Trump administration. Trump should have been in handcuffs before the week was over.

Nah I think the strongest argument against spending a lot of time/political capital on punishing the villains is that it could easily be spun as ignoring the bigger problems Americans are facing in favor of exacting retribution.

Biden was tremendously unpopular in large part because people thought he didn’t do a good job handling inflation. Prosecuting Trump harder would’ve helped by eliminating Trump, but it wouldn’t have done anything to improve voters’ view of the economy.

Doom and gloom prophecies deflate everyone working to prevent a dystopian future. In these perilous times, we need good people to step up their civic efforts. We need inspiration.

Virginia has given me a bit of hope that Democrats are done with the bullshit. But I feel like there are at least ten senators and thirty reps that need replaced before they operate like that on the federal level.

Dems win the midterms, get excited, coalesce around a presidential candidate, win the White House, fail to fix everything immediately, lose the midterms, spend the rest of presidential term unable to accomplish much, lose the White House, get blamed for everything, repeat.

The same story of my entire existence. And the Dems keep being shocked when it happens is on them. Biden kept getting run over by that truck and still couldn't come up with any gameplay other than losing.
