Post

I keep wondering why she’s not challenging Mike Bost since she doesn’t live in Jan’s district either. Bost is a Republican who needs to go as opposed to Rep. Jan Schakowsky, who is just old.

Hard no on this. We need real people who do real jobs, not just lawyers to run. And certainly not influencers. Their literal job is to say things for sponsorship. If influencers are elected they will simply do whatever the lobbyists want.

She's not that kind of influencer, for what it's worth, she specifically works for a nonprofit to make progressive educational media, most of which is on TikTok, and she gained popularity for being good at it.

By platforming her instead of the dairy farmer running for Elise Stefanik’s Congressional seat Rolling Stone is reinforcing the idea that regular people who aren’t on TikTok have no chance. When politics is a popularity contest regular people rarely win.

I'm not sure if I agree or disagree with your post, but what I do know is we need a shakeup in the Democratic party. The uncontested ones are mostly just hand wringing while Trump goes unchecked. Maybe someone like her is what's needed.

Because I’ve lived in the district for years and everyone loves her. We’re educated though, don’t watch much cable or mess around on TikTok. It’s adults.

More of this! We need to take local governance and state seats, more than anything. That’s what underlies a solid foundation for progress, and stopping the backslides into yesteryear nostalgia politics.

She’s right! It’s “behaving” that got us into this mess! Keeping the old Dems on charge is like putting the bodyguard on the negotiating team after the appointee has been kidnapped! Thank you for your service but you failed to keep us safe when democracy was on the line! we are super unsafe now!!!

Especially when the challengers have no base within the district because they’ve never done anything for anyone in the district. Then they complain about those doing things for the district.

i was able to read the article with no subs no gift no pay but i did disable ad blocking. Also i looked at a bunch of negative replies. Maybe they're right. i say go for it. She studied at GW, did some kind of media work, and evidently became a star on a platform whose name i can't even pronounce 💯🔥

she's smart, funny, and brave. she knows how to handle a**holes, she's super media savvy, she's very well informed and educated. she's a million times better than most of the Dems in office right now. they are lucky she is offering to run for them. and she's beautiful.

Exactly what we need and well overdo! As someone with a chronic illness currently dependent on Social Security disability, Medicare and Medicaid, I am extremely proud and grateful for her and she has my full support! 👍🏻🌹

THE EVIL THAT MEN DO LIVES AFTER THEM #VoteDems Get Involved! Get the word out to everyone! Share it on TikTok!! #BuildtheResistance We need more pushback! Signups @ #mobilize.us and #fiftyfifty.one for protests Attend town hall meetings letters-boycott-strike-blackouts #5Calls #Bluestorm

She’s in a district that goes about 70-30 Democrat. So the effort is to primary someone, which obviously *can* be worthy and a good idea. But she won’t win. One reason is that there ate many Jewish voters in her district, and her views and alliances won’t sit well with many.

I don’t think you understand Jewish voters. Netanyahu is the trump of Israel. The people who most vocally condemn him are also people with the most experience dealing with him- American Jews. Almost all of the pro Palestinian protests you see have a large number of Jewish people there.

(her future opponent) “Schakowsky is regarded to be a progressive member of the U.S. House. In 2009, she was identified by GovTrack as being among the most progressive members of the 111th United States Congress. As such, she has been a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.”

A second-generation Palestinian-American candidate is a exactly the type of candidate to highlight the hypocrisy of American Jews' unwavering support of the corrupt Netanyahu government who is exacting genocide in Gaza.

I knew it was coming. We are at the 💩 or get off the 🚽 part. bsky.app/profile/6tua...

The rest of the Dems need to un-clutch their pearls and follow suit ASAP. They can also NOT do that and lose their seat. Same with the Repugs standing by watching the house burn. you’re choice. #resist

She’s got my support solely because she wants to actually fight. She’s more than capable of learning the ropes of Congress and legislating once elected

I've heard her as a guest on Behind the Bastards a few times. Seems pretty well informed and to have pretty good politics. I hope she ousts a Vichy Democrat.

Schakowsky needs to retire. In addition to all of this, she endorses whoever the least progressive Dem candidate is in local races in Illinois. If the richest people in town who are friends with developers know them, that’s who she endorses. Her time has past. Thanks for your service, now retire.

A journalist and researcher with experience working with activist campaigns and a Bachelor's degree. I had to look her up but it seems "social media" is the least of it. In any case I think more Gen Z running is great.

I'm a huge fan of primarying everybody at this point... im a pretty institutional dem but right now I think it's right that all sitting dem congressmembers face their constituents in a real race to ask "am I still the right person to represent you?"

People shd know who they primary: Schakowsky supports single payer health care, LGBTQ rts, boycotted Bibi’s speech to Congress, urged Biden to reconsider arms shipments to the Israel after Gaza crisis, and is a progressive MOC. Primary-ing her bec she is not young is stupid. Focus on Dems who suck.

My understanding (but have to research more) is the woman in RS article is young and media savvy and quite to right of Schakowsky. Rightwing knows too many voters look at the package and not what’s inside. Also w/MAGA spending tons on races Dems must spend $$ strategically. Not primary-ing good MOC.

Still working at 80yo is a position. In many trades and professions it is common to retire, let others have the jobs. Mentor, teach, etc but allow the young to step up. I hope someone intervenes if I still try to nurse at 80yo. I hope I'd want to hand it to a bright young star when I'm 80 years old.

While I agree, I don't think the Dems can say much because it could derail #transnationalorganizedcrime investigations and those into Musk that continue worldwide ahead of critical elections in Wisconsin April 1, Canada April 28 and Romania May 4.

Also, this "plucky outsider" had enough gumption - and cash - to send a direct text message to voters here with the announcement. So she can play the naive card all she wants, she's got some heavy hitters behind her ... and she better be authentic or she will get rightfully torched when caught ...

How much do direct text messages cost to send? The advert doesn't sound like she's playing a "naive" card. And if she has heavy hitters behind her as you insinuate but provide no evidence for, wouldn't that be a good thing?

Hey, don’t run just to run - run to win. No problem with that. BUT, the tactic of using a text message to fundraise is an old school establishment Democratic operative play. So saying she’ll be different because she will use those tactics (and advisors?) against them may not be as new as she says …

HI! 9th District voter here! There are IL Dems that need opponents like Mike Quigley in the district next to us, and there are rumors about whether Jan Schakowsky will run again, and I'm OK with a primary - but someone who is not in the district running against a real Dem fighter? Do better, Kat ...

Once upon a time, politicking was done in dark smoky rooms by dusty old white men. Since then, a spotlight occasionally highlights those that politick. What you then see is a form of "Politician's got Talent" - any performance necessary to make you think they are actually doing something useful.

Did Sanders win? I am not arguing FOR big money in elections, I’m just saying there’s only so much “grass roots” money that can fuel all these elections. Is there a risk that the billionaire you think is “good” (think Mark Cuban), and they turn out to be not so good, yep, but if we lose, it’s worse

Yeah - that's the ticket. They are our representatives, not our leaders, trying to work through a jungle of powerlessness VOTERS handed them. But sure - fight them while MAGA try to dismantle the courts, abandon ALL civil rights, erase ALL people of color, steal ALL our basic supports. Yeah. Sure.

While I agree, I don't think the Dems can say much because it could derail #transnationalorganizedcrime investigations and those into Musk that continue worldwide ahead of critical elections in Wisconsin April 1, Canada April 28 and Romania May 4.

That would be the least of it. Dems are a totally minority party, but calling out Musk's perfidy is what they do daily at town halls and in press conference NOBODY much pays any attention to. His legal status is not discussed nor does it need to be to call out his fascist goals politically.

"No," but I'm not going to tell you what we do need. I don't know about where you live, but where I do, I'll support a candidate who wants to go after Republicans and responds to their constituents.
