The tech oligarchs believe exceptional weather change = a mass die-off of pollenators is coming. Combined with other factors, e.g., shifting arable land availability, resulting in food chain breakdown and mass global starvation/death. The youth see the wealthy distain for them as walking dead.

*it's also why the ultra-wealthy are driving investment in defensible land that's expected to stay or become more arable. It's why they're driving AI, robotics, automated defense systems, population reduction, etc. To protect them/their enclaves from mass starvation rioting in the (nearish) future.

**and they want as many automated (AI/robotics) systems as possible to replace "untrustworthy" human workers/servants in their enclaves. They fear betrayal from within while wanting to keep the societal comforts they enjoy, incl medical care, food prep, entertainment, manufacturing, and more.

CEOs were incredibly insulated from what people think of them and haven't had any negative feedback for whatever it is they think and do. But with social media and the fact that they have decided to make themselves the face of their companies, people can see them for what they are.

Mary Shelley ironically proved that technology only grows if you start asking hard ethical questions about it. When we believe technology ought to serve the world, not the other way around, it grows like weeds.

As a reminder there is yet hope for our species. It's amazing that, even without being taught critical thinking , the ability to read, doomscrolling through endless 'influencers', and so many more debilitating distractions, they 𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡 manage to get it right every now and again.

with the data center comparison, mostly they're WHY data centers are unpopular. There are good reasons not to want datacenters in your backyard but the intensity is about anti-oligarchic politics.

Exactly, they trample everything without a thought or care for anything but money (especially people and laws) and leave a massive mess. Look at DOGE. Why will data centers be any different?

This massive effort to push AI into everything, to make it somehow profitable, is insane. I made an appointment to take my car in for service at 8 am. I just got an AI-generated reminder to bring it in at 8 pm, with a helpful Google scheduling link. The Unabomber was not all wrong.

I know it’s a bit too much to hope for, but I really want the recent wave of "People hate AI" reporting in the media to be the start of mainstream acceptance that AI as pushed by the techbros is absolute dog shit and nobody wants it.

This old kid too. Awful people and everyone of them should be taxed until they are not billionaires anymore. Every dollar they spend to corrupt our government (aka known as “campaign contributions” etc) should cost $10 in taxes.

I can't believe more young Gen X/older Millennials aren't universally hardcore anti-"AI" considering we were trained for the moment people start going "I made a machine that makes pollution and destroys clean water to make me money somehow" by Captain Planet.

One would think that their wonderful empathetic personalities, warm and humerous discourse, boundless generosity for those less fortunate, concern for the environment, and ability to strike exactly the right tone when commenting on things they know nothing about would make them instant rock stars.

They are just gross people and are not really tech people. They are a bunch of people born with money who watched the movie version of the book and are trying to unsuccessfully replicate them.

"But... but... We spent the last century indoctrinating western society into believing that greed and self interest were good! The ideal even! Where did we go wrong?! Quickly now. Ban the children from the internet! They're being exposed to non conforming beliefs!" - Dumb fucks, 2026
