I once had a dog who did this. I tried to dissuade her by squirting her with a squirt bottle filled with a vinegar solution. I came home on the second day of that plan and found the squirt bottle chewed into little bitty pieces. Dog 1 Man 0.

One of ours dug a hole on either side of a fluffy bush we had. He got a cool spot with built in shade and he could move to the other side if something happened or sunshine was on one side.

I have a backyard that looks like Caddyshack on Steroids. But the house came with a sandbox and when I remember to fill it back up, it’s very popular. Unfortunately, I forget to fill it up quite often, which is why I have two fit by 2 foot holes scattered around my yard.
