To run into quicksand, you just have to live in the right place. I have a couple of nearby parks with quicksand warnings. (Although given that someone clearly drove a mower over this spot, I question the quickness of the sand)

After recent Covid, I developed a weird condition where I smell smoke intermittently, all the time. I know it's a long Covid symptom, but I'm still slightly worried. And I just had to revisit my academic record for only the 2nd time in my adult life, and probably never will again.

Quicksand. We were really planning for that after school when I was the kid. I mean, school never taught us useful stuff, like how to deal with it! (It might be related to Karl May novels 😁) Also, there are no crocodiles where I live, but I really expected I'd have to handle a shark by now!

I really did think quicksand would be a much broader concern than it turned out to be. Then I learned about liquefaction in engineering school and I got excited for a moment…but I live in the mid-Atlantic region. 😫

Makes sense to me. Cooking happens out in the kitchen, but kids might not see the invisible work of planning meals. It's kind of startling becoming an adult and discovering how much background work it takes to run your life and home. There's way more "figuring out what to do" than I realized.

The good news is that I have lived long enough to learn that you cannot breathe through a reed or straw from the bottom of a stream when a bunch of men on horseback are trying to track you down. Of course, I also haven't been tracked down by men on horseback, so I better start living life.

I like how Board Games held its own on this chart. Amazing how the digital infrastructure (Kickstarter, BoardGameGeek, etc.) helped that industry thrive by indulging nifty niche ideas like Wingspan or Age of Renaissance, instead of leaving us all suffering Monopoly or Risk.

I excitedly told American GF that if we visit Runnymede there’s a text-book oxbow lake (the first one I ever saw at like 35 years old) and received a blank stare of “what the hell are you talking about?”

Star Wars is definitely coming up more than I expected. I definitely expected the prequel trilogy to be the end of it, and I definitely had an adult or two tell me it was mostly for kids.

As an #ActualAutistic person I know how much sensory issues increase with age.   Being overly tuned into strange smells and noises can be hard. However, it can be helpful.  You can detect coolant leaks before anyone else, for instance.  Still, it can be annoying too.

Not having enough car chases is a bummer, I know. My 10 year old version misses that very much. And as you pointed out, getting compensated with cable management isn't the flex it seems, pun intended. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sure, if you only have to make food for yourself, are rich and have no allergies, food sensitivities, or nutrition concerns. But if you eat with another person, it's more than 2x as hard. If you eat with 3 other people-- some of whom will change food preferences based on color... it's complicated

Honestly, the "people offering me drugs" is much higher on the frequency axis than I expected. Not a single person offered me drugs as a teenager. As a 30-something mom though...
