Friend sent me this photo he took today of the Reflecting Pool ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I could easily see it being a card that one of his advisers played to distract him from an obviously bad idea. “Why talk about nuking Iran when we can cement your legacy over Obama by redoing the reflecting pool?”

I'm 70 & I've traveled to DC for years. Until this paint job started, I'd never heard of it referred to as a pool. Nobody should ever be allowed to swim in it. Just like the reflecting pond in front of the Taj Mahal.

I don't think any of that is true, but it's a lovely thought. Let's not make things up. You can certainly go to reflect, but it IS the Reflecting Pool and it was meant to reflect. And Trump is still a dumbass who just made it puke green.

What causes this in ponds and lakes in the Midwest is usually heat and some sort of runoff. We call it an algae bloom. Don’t want to drink it or be in it. It drives fish to the very bottom because the oxygen up top is gone. It’s some nasty smelly stuff.

I’m guessing they refilled it with some questionable water then came some runoff from the grass and land around it. Mix that with some hot weather and you got green water.

I will bet that (a) Trump's cronies did not do a good job, and left some old water in. Also, high summer in Michigan could produce an algae bloom in less than 72 hours. I imagine that high summer in DC would take less time.

When I was managing my parents' pool, the pool cleaners would open it by draining all of the water, down to suctioning the drains. Bone dry. Then I'd get a truck to fill it with clean water. 1/

The source of the 'questionable water' is the Potomac River. This project was destined to fail because it did nothing to repair known issues with the underground pipes that connect the Pool to the river. They leak, and the filtration systems need maintenance. This was a money grab, never a rehab.

Mother Nature moves fast. All the arrogance about using “commercial grade pool paint/sealant” and an “ozone nanobubbler filtration system” didn’t hold a candle to the humble algae. A quick job (quick taxpayers’ money in the bank for the non-bid contractor, too) done without proper Science = 🤡 show.

Trump initially estimated the project would cost only about $1.8 million through a handpicked contractor, the total ultimately cost $14.2 million -- 'handpicked' not for skill but a 'friendly' company that 'loves him' -- and now this.

Back of the envelope calculation: People pee ~11g of nitrogen per day, or 2g each time. Since N is a limiting nutrient in algal formation, with a Redfield ratio of 106:16, each time people pee in the reflecting pool they grow ~30g of algal biomass. SO STOP PEEING IN THE POOL! It makes Donny sad.

We can’t have healthcare says Trump and the congressional Republicans — but we have 14 million of our taxpayer dollars to pay for another failure

I will be posting a picture of my reflecting toilet bowl after I get done with my Taco Bell , It will look the same but for $13,999,995.00 less !! Not only a convicted felon but a dumb ass !!

There are actually algae truthers out there who believe that as soon as a the work was finished and the pool refilled, that Antifa Super Soldiers secretly replanted algae in it just to make trump look stupid. 😀

Keeping algae at bay is...science.

Fascism, is, at its core, the complete rejection of competence. Expertise, education, diligence, science, those "hard" things are required to lift all of us up. But power, cronyism, corruption, lying, those things work for fascists because they are fine elevating a few by forcing most people down.
