I love that meal. I put diced pan fried shallots in the soup sometimes. And basil on the grilled cheese. Not done that for ages - gonna make that this week one day now!
School was a few blocks away, every Friday Mom would make grilled cheese sandwich and Campbell cream of tomato soup,
Oops,, forgot the jumbo glass of milk
Yeah, that one looks a little rough. It’s also one of these meals where having the most basic ass white bread and Kraft American cheese and condensed tomato soup is as good if not better than a lot of attempts to elevate it. Some of that is almost certainly nostalgia/sense memory, of course.
I think that sandwich was just left next to a space heater for 90 seconds and who on earth wants to dunk French fries in tomato soup? They completely misunderstood the assignment.
"The sandwich is uninspiring. Like hotel room art it tantalizes us with the potential of human creativity only to highlight the banality of the modern consumer experience.
The soup lies contemptuously in its bowl, merely an echo of its inspiration—only suitable to be consumed without thought."
that is an abomination. Tried zooming in on the menu to see whise to blame and couldn’t but why does part of menu look like airline safety instructions?
Well sine people make the odd choice to out bologna in their grilled cheese or some other weirdness. If anything that is a melt, not a grilled cheese. Oh then there's that Gordon Ramsey grilled cheese lol
Only once I worked out the time I should use to make grilled cheese in the air fryer. I can screw up grilled cheese in a pan on the stovetop every time. Usually managing to burn the bread while still not melting the cheese.
It always looks so good, and I always feel left out because I don't like grilled cheese or tomato soup. But that does look comfortingly amazing, and I hope you enjoyed it immensely.
I have a vague memory of there being a branding campaign with tv ads for this combo in maybe the late 80s, so like kindergarten for me, or maybe a little later, and they called it the Super Combo 😂
My husband has been making new recipes in our bread maker, so yesterday we had grilled cheese on homemade Parmesan basil bread. It was a holy experience.
I had it last night with naan sandwich rounds for the bread because of discount basket. (no photo sorry)
It's really a pinnacle of simple, quick, and good though.
