lol i just discovered that if there's a goblin corpse rotting in your hallway in dwarf fortress, you can stop it from stinking up the place simply by hiding it. out of sight, literally out of mind!
you don't need to throw out your trash, you just have to pretend it's not there
"When other genders like women engaged with the community, it led to the common assessment that while men could continue acting as men, being a Wikipedian meant that a woman should 'stop behaving like a woman' (Menking & Erickson, 2015, p. 3)."

"The BOP modified the rules of prison assignment in May.... The attorney general can now direct the BOP to transfer any particular inmate to any particular prison, based on the attorney general’s exclusive judgment," overriding any security formulas that would otherwise have governed placement. /1
Someone said to me, "I'm sorry but I got your book from a library." Nobody should ever apologise for that. You read my book! That's brilliant! I grew up hanging out in libraries and the idea of a world without them fills me with dread. Without libraries, authors, like readers, will only suffer.
The Pentagon is withholding causality and hit numbers.
The CDC is withholding infection rates.
The FDA is withholding information about food contamination.
The EPA is withholding pollution and climate data.
This corrupt administration is ALL about concealing the consequences of its incompetence.
Guess who I didn't see installing a new roof on a building in my hometown in 100 degree temperatures? That's right, Donald Trump, Stephen Miller, Markwayne Mullin, and Todd Blanche!
This article about the threat that AI (and particularly Google AI) represent to anyone who publishes anything on the internet is absolutely chilling. (gift link)

Google has been deleting the reviews of ICE detention centers on Google Maps, according to a new study.
The study found Google deleted reviews from dozens of ICE prisons, then blocked users from writing new ones.
DHS says ICE never requested that Google do this.

A quick word on Taco Bell:
That's where we found the suspected lettuce, and it's not bc Taco Bell is gross.
It's bc Taco Bell is REALLY GOOD at tracing product!
Keeping track of exactly where they got their ingredients, & exactly what restaurants each shipment of ingredients went to!
Escorting the nine-year-old to a friend’s birthday pool party, I told him I wasn’t going to swim in part because I’m dressed for work.
He told me I could just jump in like Mamdani did. This is what socialism does to our children.
Silly hypothetical of the day: Large dog, tied by a collar or harness to a stroller wagon containing two five year old children, being pulled down a public sidewalk. What laws, if any, does this violate?
Since the tragic and unnecessary ICE killing of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, DHS has been on a rampage, sending out several anti-immigrant press releases just in the past few hours.
I have a theory that when an immigration agency kills someone or engages in other forms of public state violence, DHS goes on a very transparent media blitz, ramping up its claims against so-called sanctuary cities and circulating more of its "worst of the worst" allegations against immigrants.
What Platner is doing right now is trying to ignite an intra-party nuclear exchange, so that he can tell the Maine Democrats that THE PEOPLE will not accept anything but him or his designated successor.
This is the kind of thing Trump would do.
Between this and the national guard in Memphis it’s kind of disturbing me (yes I know I’m a member of the media) the degree to which these killings aren’t really breaking thru rn
Author Melissa Whitney, who is blind, is refuting the argument that there’s no HEA in her romance books because her FMC is still blind at the end of the story.
She’s right to push back because that argument is hogwash. #Disability#Romance

Do you know how easy it is to NOT trip over your own dick into Nazi shit. To not go on Nazi podcasts or retweet Nazis or have Nazi tattoos. It’s the easiest thing most of us have ever done. We all do that every day.
At 4:00 PM CDT, 2 NNW Elgin [Kane Co, IL] Trained Spotter reports Flash Flood. Tyler creek is out of its banks causing extensive flooding at Judson University. Several local roads are flooded and impassable. #ilwx Link
Mamdani: "As we mark 250 years ... we see the wealthiest country -- one where children go to sleep hungry while the world's first trillionaire hungers for more ... we see masked agents terrorizing our streets, eating food cooked by undocumented neighbors before spiriting them away in unmarked vans"
A fun aside — MSG, owned by Trump pal James Dolan, tried to tell us that the party wasn’t cancelled because of Trump.
And not long after, the NYPD sent an updated statement — yes, it’s cancelled because of the presidential visit.
Here are the statements.
It’s weird because many dog whistles are in general a low info indicator of being a nazi but seeing someone say, “I am being persecuted for innocently using this nazi dog whistle,” is one of the highest info indicators there is
this is one of the clearest ways he's aging - he used to snap about stuff, sure, but it was more calculated and under control
he's really losing the ability to self-regulate and getting angrier and more erratic
WOW - Trump crashes out & cuts his interview w/ Welker short as she presses him on his lack of evidence for claiming elections are rigged
"You're either crooked or you're stupid. I've had enough. Thank you darling," he tells her"
"I traveled all the way to Wisconsin for this interview," she pleads
My photos app reminded me it’s 3 years to the day since I first got glasses (even though I have had amblyopia my entire life, I just had to deal with it because I was never given an eye exam and was told my eyesight was “perfect” bc my parents had me read an eye chart at home)
Johnson is truly fascinating, because he's a 'type' that appears often in fiction but very rarely in the real world - the bad person for a good cause.
By all accounts, LBJ was a bully, a cheat, corrupt, utterly ruthless... and genuinely driven by a bone-deep conviction to justice and equality.
Sorry but the way we vote in L.A. makes no sense. Every registered voter is sent a ballot, votes, drops them off, and then an army of workers methodically and with full transparency works through them to ensure there are no mistakes and you get a text and email if there's a problem? That's fucked.
I don’t support Platner and also think the tattoo is part of what makes him unfit for the office.
But I also think it’s a stretch to say he’s a Nazi as if that is a fact
