There can be no clearer distillation of Republican policy than deporting a decorated educator while welcoming a criminal failson.

I’m not sure many people realize Memphis has also been under a massive ICE/ATF/FBI deployment, as well as bring policed by the Tennessee National Gaurd. This has been in place since last fall. People have died. Guardsmen shot a 20 year-old in the back.

A lot of ink has been spilled on not being able to extrapolate from early vote totals, but this is a HUGE piece of data suggesting there's no republican cavalry waiting for ED to arrive. Because what is Fox if not the GOP's primary medium for GOTV messaging in households across the country?

Oliver Darcy@oliverdarcy.bsky.social

Scoop: Fox News will finish October with its worst ratings in years, an ominous sign for Republicans ahead of the midterms. Compared to last October, Fox News is DOWN 27% in total viewers and 32% in the 25-54 demo. MS NOW and CNN are up. Details in @status.news: www.status.news/p/fox-news-r...

Even if these viewers are just finding new outlets, the absence of a coordinated message, pounded into viewers skulls every hour on the hour is a meaningful loss for the party.

This flies in the face of Obama's passage of the ACA. Yes, it was a public-private partnership, but it was always intended to be a stepping stone to universal, public healthcare - just what could be passed at the time (which was still a gargantuan achievement)

This whole era is. The public is forgetting why Reaganism became a thing. The Dems since Clinton have largely agreed with Reagan, Trump is merely Reagan turned up to 11 on everything. Mandami is the first to be not of the previous era (where both parties agreed government was the problem).

In fact I will say the Earnest and Pious Charismatic Ethnic Minority political figure (AOC, Mamdani, El-Sayed) has been a pretty good bet for the American left so far, whereas the Disaffected Gruff White Guy Showcasing True Masculinity (Fetterman, Platner) has been a worse bet. Just an observation.

I'm going to try to do this cleanly. Today's right wing governments are networked to each other. Those networks are well-documented. You can read about them in books. Following the elections in one node of that network is good practice for understanding the U.S. node.

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.
