For the third time in the Finals, the Valkyries hold the Dream to their lowest point totals of the season.
64 points in game 1, then 62 points in game 4, now 55 in game 5.
Valks were also responsible for Dreamβs regular-season low of 66. Their regular season average was 91.3 ppg.
San Diegoβs implementation of SB 79 has been such a disappointment
for a βpro-housing cityβ, they sure are pushing a lot of bad faith effort to avoid allowing more housing
Pro-housing groups sued five jurisdictions over SB 79 maps.
One San Diego lot sits 375 feet from a trolley station but was excluded because a 100-foot alley has no sidewalk.
The suits argue that the gap shouldn't count as a lack of a walkable route.

The La Salle Hotel?! It had two stairs! It was also 22 stories tall and had 1,172 guest rooms. This is what chairs of important ICC committees (not randos!) think is in the same universe as a small apartment building.
Now we are talking about why multiple stairs were required. Wycoff hotel in Atlanta 119 people dead. Photograph of lady who jumped out of the building. [it's a black and white photo because we are using examples from the before times.] Also cites Lasalle Hotel 61 dead and Dubuque 16 dead.
A very important detail that gets missed here is that these folks are NOT engineers. They are building department plan examiners, inspectors, firefighters, etc. They do enforcement and implementation, not system-level analysis.
Itβs kind of like if the police could write the criminal laws.
This is a form of retaliation against someone for speaking out. He knew he would be punished, buy that punishment does not include unnecessarily strict confinement (which is barred by military law).

The NYPD just released surveillance video of the ICE shooting (which occurred off camera).
Two men in civilian clothes run up to a car with guns drawn. One second later, one man begins smashing the butt of his gun into the driverβs side window. The driver appears to panic and hit the gas.
Elite impunity is perhaps the single greatest problem in American politics going back to Gerald Fordβs Watergate pardons. These people keep getting away with it. This needs to stop.
Itβs cool, and not incredibly demoralizing, that the last ~25 years (? more?) have been an increasingly flagrant demonstration that The Rules, as we were brought up to understand them, just do not apply to a lot of people
I analyzed ridership and fare data a while back, but didn't publish because the results were boring: there is no set of stations that BART could eliminate that would create a more efficient system, in collected fares per service mile. Not even Oakland airport.
My LinkedIn is full of preservation professionals who are confused and angry about that other fields haven't rallied to protect Section 106 process or fight the Senate permitting reform bill. They'll still defend all of this.
New Haven's Historic District Commission has come out against pedestrianizing Temple Street where it cuts through the Green. Preservation, everyone! www.newhavenindependent.org/2026/10/07/p...
This is why I'm running to be your representative on @rideact.bsky.social's Board of Directors, Ward 3. I believe that the bus should be a viable commuting option in the East Bay, and not an option-of-last-resort that leaves people stranded.
Hey Bay Area people! Did you know there's a downballot race where you can have a huge impact? Joel Young is a bully and he's corrupt as hell. Adriana Valencia is running to unseat him on a platform of reliability, access, and transparency. Vote and Donate secure.actblue.com/donate/valen...
good news: HCD has rejected Beverly Hills' attempted shell game to make 15% of their TOD capacity disappear
(TODAP = Transit Oriented Development Alternative Plan)
a great win for both housing and mathematical integrity
www.hcd.ca.gov/sites/defaul...
Most cities are doing their best to follow the law, but some are not. The worst is probably Beverly Hills, which is trying to use a shell game to disappear nearly 3,000 homes worth of zoned capacity.
HCD should have nipped this in the bud, but there's still time for them to bring down the hammer.
HCD also smacked down Beverly Hills' attempt to limit density bonus height in their local alternative plan (Palo Alto next!), and Burlingame's attempt to get out of SB 79 by rezoning their high school and train tracks (please be serious, cities)

East Bay for Everyone has published our endorsements of local candidates in Berkeley, Oakland, Emeryville, Alameda, San Leandro, BART, AC Transit and of course YES on the Regional Transit Measure! eastbayforeveryone.org/2026/09/21/e...
You probably saw this coming but things went seriously sideways after that. Turns out the street is a historic landmark. Any change has to be approved by the Parks Department and the Landmarks Board.
Not All Preservationists, of course (why some of myβ¦ well, not best friends, but acquaintances anywayβ¦)
but maybe we should get rid of dedicated preservationist boards until we can figure out whatβs going on
So, unbeknownst to most voters, this little AC Transit Ward 3 election is a BFD. If we can get @valencia4actransit.bsky.social elected, the Board tips (McCalley is a swing vote) and change starts to happen. And your life will actually improve.

I feel every few weeks there's a meticulously researched
@stephenjacobsmith.com post that's like "here's this one dude in charge of the California Doorknob Industry Commission who has statistically caused 67k more people to be homeless"
I've been endorsed by the Alameda County Democratic Party! I'm beyond thrilled that, in a race for the @rideact.bsky.social Ward 3 seat, my message resonated with party leadership.
It is just objectively true that the biggest impact you a normal person can have is being a super-volunteer/mid-dollar donor for a state legislative candidate
you know whats "funny" I know for a fact she's never encouraged people to get involved, the biggest impact you can have is to have been a valuable volunteer, fundraiser etc for a successful Democrat
Putting the historic district in the context of its consequences, a very clear trade-off is being made.
This historic district would protect buildings that housed past LGBTQ businesses and residents, at the cost of allowing future generations of queer refugees to live in the Castro.
With transit capital funding on its last legs, it's time to consider a new approach. We've gotten very little in concrete service improvements from 10 years of TIRCP competitive grants. Let's stop paying for paperwork and fund capital via multiyear investment programs. bsky.app/profile/cale...
Funding is a major, underappreciated contributor to the high construction costs and long timelines that hold back electrification. In our new policy paper, Against Patchwork Funding, we propose a smarter way to fund rail: Multi-year Investment Frameworks. 𧡠calelectricrail.org/against-patc...
If you want to know why it feels like there is no direction or vision in LA, this is why. The LA establishment is stuck 50 years in the past, serving people like the Sherman Oaks HOA who want all the opportunity of being a global city while pretending their neighborhood is a village.
Bass hates taco trucks because sheβs running for the mayor of 1984 Los Angeles; Raman is running for mayor of 2026. And the Sherman Oaks HOA believes in an American dream of suburbs without a city, and Bass is willing to pretend thatβs sustainable.
If youβre a parent and gang violence is not a concern where you live, cars are really the only thing you should be worried about when it comes to your kids safety.
know local elections are important but aren't sure how to learn about them? have strong opinions about housing, land use, transportation, etc that you want to share with local candidates?
either way, this event tomorrow might be right for you!
Alameda County: meet your candidates
Join us in downtown Oakland on Thursday Aug 20th at 6pm for a mixer to meet candidates and elected officials running for office across Alameda County this fall.
RSVP required.

I'm working to end unfunded inclusionary zoning in El Cerrito, which has produced zero affordable units.
A year ago City Council reduced inclusionary fees to 25% and reduced or eliminated other fees for four projects.
It worked! One of those projects is going to Planning Commission next week.

jokes aside, this article makes a great point: Scott Wiener has a history of taking on (important) fights that no other politician would touch. What's more, he has a strong record of then *winning those fights*.
I would like to see what he can do in Congress!
Golden State Valkyries forward Gabby Williams: βThereβs a lot of discourse around trans athletes and what they can compete in. I would welcome a trans athlete on my team or against my team. Anytime. I donβt think itβs a problem in the world, itβs just another way to kind of attack trans people.β
SB 79 at one month:
1) Very encouraging signs of developer interest in actually using the law
2) New projects are all in high resource areas with exclusionary histories
3) We wonβt see the full impact in most of the stateβs biggest cities for another 5 year
4) Beverly Hills is on some bullshit
Most cities are doing their best to follow the law, but some are not. The worst is probably Beverly Hills, which is trying to use a shell game to disappear nearly 3,000 homes worth of zoned capacity.
HCD should have nipped this in the bud, but there's still time for them to bring down the hammer.
SB 79 has been in effect for a month now, so I wrote my take on how implementation is going. Pretty well, I think! But there are some important tests coming for HCD
@cayimby.bsky.socialcayimby.org/blog/sb-79-o...
Let's start with the good news: we've already seen proposals for hundreds of new homes in transit-rich, high-resource areas!
These areas were not building apartments before SB 79; now there's a surge of interest.
