Been thinking about this FB post from 2018. I was talking about the kavanaugh nomination, and 7+years later, things continue to get so much worse for sexual assault survivors. We are reminded DAILY, in intimate detail, we don't matter. I hate it here.

When I was 13, an adult family member coerced me into having sex. Eventually he went to jail. I've been thru tons of therapy and am 1000% at peace with the situation. It's a piece of how I became who I am. My mom (RIP) was my main source of emotional support through that experience.

37 years later, it's soul crushing to me that someone can be publicly ATTACKED by their own mother for a similar situation. What I experienced doesn't hurt anymore but being reminded, in intimate detail, that survivors aren't believed, EVEN WHEN THE PERP IS FOUND GUILTY fills my heart with rage.

On Tuesday, someone from out of state called in a bomb threat to my kid's high school to the police dept across the street. After a lockdown and building sweep while my kid was evacuated, it was determined to be an attempted swat/hoax. W.T.F. Who does that? Whhhhhhhy?

Now today I sit here reading about the school shooting in Bend Oregon. I don't understand. I'll never understand.

GOP is the party of Big Business. The Democrats are the party of protecting Big Business from the wrath of the voters.

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

It's too depressing and obnoxious to write about, but virtually all of the doomy/horny AI hyperventilating is transparently displaced anxiety about our fucked climate and political situation. Even rich idiots know it's bad and being permitted to get worse. They're trying to write their own ending.

Someone said that a lot of people essentially destroyed the country out of "boredom" because they couldn't find their own happiness/personal satisfaction within their lives and I hate that it is probably true for a good chunk of these fuckers.

Exactly. You cannot shame fascists by pointing out how brutally evil they are, because they see violence and other forms of 'dominance' as strength. You need to hammer on their insecurities to get them on the defensive.

our entire global financial system is currently leveraged to the hilt on the premise that it was good and right for a small cadre of US companies to steal all of the intellectual work ever produced by humanity and sell its back to us without credit or remuneration to the authors (plagiarism)

I've been struggling with overwhelming choice anxiety about the stupidest things. Last night at the grocery store, trying to pick out ice cream. So many options, vanilla? Choco Cherry? Perhaps ice cream sandwiches or frozen fruit bars? Orange push ups?

The crippling anxiety led me to decide the best option was to skip ice cream completely. I dunno if it's just the cost of everything doesn't seem worth the squeeze or my menopause brain pushing my prioritization matrix outta whack but it sux. Now I want Ice cream.

I drive to work at the same time and route every day. The sunrise was particularly beautiful today, an interesting visual reminder of the seasons changing. I travel during the same spot on the clock and map, but the sky/earth/solar system has it's own timeline.

“The left is going to lose these elections for us,” say the people who lost 2000, 2002, 2004, 2010, 2014, 2016, 2024 — often because they were fixated on the “winning” strategy of punching left and wooing center right voters

A lot of people don’t realize the dust bowl wasn’t a natural phenomenon. It happened when agrobusiness interests dramatically transformed the plains without regard for drought, and created vicious dust storms that choked whole families to death. That’s what I think of when I read about data centers.

Humans really aren’t good at slow moving catastrophes though (I think as I wait for the start of another 100 degree day). We often only notice and get into gear when we are already in deep shit.

The people want Democrats who will fight for them. If Socialist Democrats are the only ones fighting, that’s who will be elected.

The Democratic establishment crash-out is a wonderous thing to see. A bunch of people, their organization named after democracy, unable to handle the results of just a few popular elections, appealing to the unspoken rules of a club they thought belonged exclusively to them. Let's do it everywhere.

So I finished #DTFStLouis last night. It had several actors I like a bunch, and it was mostly 'good' but the ending was deeply sad.

Occurs to me that we’re at the end of an ultimately very anomalous century-long evidentiary golden age during which it was extremely easy to produce an accurate visual/auditory record of reality, and relatively difficult to produce a false one.

I think about art like this and how the artist and perhaps the original trees it's based on are GONE but the beauty created lives on.
