nytimes.comOklahoma Families Faced the Hottest Summer Ever and an Electricity Crisis (Gift Article)Record heat and a rising demand for electricity are closing in on Oklahoma families trying to keep the lights on and the AC running.

Members of my family went no-contact decades before it was cool. My stepbrother hasn't spoken to my stepmother in nearly 30 years. The crisis for him also came during the lead up to his wedding, when his future wife said me or her and he said easy choice.

This is a quietly metastasizing moral panic

My sisters and i all navigate our relationships with my stepmother differently, according to our geographic and genetic distance, but none of us has what anyone would call healthy or positive.

But they're supposed to end their lab reports with an assessment of the "software" they used to make their IDs. This year, in the midst of so much hype about what "AI" can do in biology, i'm curious what the state of the art is for automated cell characterization/identification/quantification.

A quick web search led to a short list of commercial products that could be Theranos, or could be for real. So where are we at in 2026? Has the work of techs in the diagnostic labs our biopsies/blood work/stool/urine/sputum/semen/vaginal swabs get sent to changed?

They take their list of what structures are present in the unknown cell and try to match it to the description of one of 18 specialized cells from across life.

Students then read a bit from a 15-year-old government agency publication discussing the development of an algorithm to pick out the cytoskeleton in digital images. Mainly this exercise is supposed to reinforce what they've been learning in lecture about organelle structure and function.

YES. Every woman lives a life that is a little (or a lot) smaller, knows a world that is narrower and more predictable, because it's just not worth the energy or risks to her physical safety.

maura quint@mauraquint.bsky.social

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.
