Welcome, new followers! Please note that while I write critically about Christian nationalism (among other topics), this account is not anti-religion. Honest disagreement is encouraged. But if you come here with "spaghetti monster" snark & "religion is for dupes" flippery, I will hit "block" like

Any politician who’s willing to throw away one group’s rights is willing to throw away everyone’s rights. It’s that simple. Every single consultant, pundit and candidate who’s shown a willingness to abandon trans rights needs to be shunned from the party forever

Kansas Dem Sen. nominee Adam Hamilton on trans rights: “I don’t think we should take a small group of people and bully them, pick on them, and hurt them. I understand one thing really clearly when it comes to transgender people, and that is Jesus told me I was to love my neighbor as I love myself”

None of us has a responsibility to be a hero, but each of us has a moral imperative in this moment to respond with empathy and do what we can to stand up for our neighbors.

Still absolutely galling that nobody ever says "you can't fucking talk to her like that" when he does this stuff.

Elon Musk is the top political donor of this midterm election, a report shows. Our reporter Theodore Schleifer explains how Musk, the world's richest man, came back from a brief rift with President Trump and Republicans to become a central player. trib.al/8zaFISN

This is bananas as a closing argument in the midterms. It’s the ultimate narcissistic thought. Everything always works out for him—legally or illegally, in reality or in his head. Does it all work out for other people? Who cares.

Just wild that this is the explicit message.

So, the United States is now TAKING shackled human beings to west Africa? The route may be reversed but the racism and white supremacy are just the same.

I am entirely serious when I say that this should be seen as a moderate position. It specifically and surgically dismantles institutions that did not exist pre-9/11 and assigns their functions much as they were assigned pre-9/11.

Truthout@truthout.org

Rep. Delia C. Ramirez has introduced a bill that would abolish not just ICE, but the DHS altogether, repealing the 2002 law establishing the agency and replacing it with one focused on protecting civil and human rights.

Not for nothing, but Abu Ghraib was a breaking point for a lot of conservative Christians who decided the answer to WWJD? was not “torture his enemies.” They left the church & the GOP. I’m sure a few live-streamed executions will bring them right back.

Really seems like Maine Dems could benefit from using a version of the 2008 message for voters who liked the maverick McCain: “She’s a decent person. It made sense for you to back her in the past. But it’s not good enough now. She enables Trump when it matters—and none of us can afford that.”

Going after Collins personally has never worked in any of her previous campaigns. Just as it was a fool’s errand to paint McCain as a radical. You have to change the frame for voters, rewrite their role.

So the election becomes not about whether voters personally like the incumbent—you stipulate that they do—but about stopping Trump. If Collins makes that possible, then you can back her. But she doesn’t, so she’s got to go.

Want something new to worry about? Happy to oblige. For some people, COVID reactivates the Epstein-Barr Virus, known for triggering such hits as MS, lupus & mono. So if you had mono as a kid & then got COVID decades later, you might end up w/ mono that lasts 4yrs & counting. Ask me how I know.

And for those who were Platner boosters until very recently, I would love to hear what you’ve learned and how it will change your approach to candidates in the future. Because until that shifts, it’s all just words.

There’s no shame in having backed Platner in the beginning. Or even waiting to hear his response to early allegations. But if you were still backing him a few days ago, you need more progressive women in your circle. He set off our ick meter a while ago. Oh, and we believe women.

This is ridiculous for many reasons, not least of which is the fact that I would be shocked if JD here could recite the Nicene Creed.

Mamdani has demonstrated something that Democrats have largely forgotten. You can't just do good things for voters and expect to be rewarded for it. You have to tell them about it, over and over again. You have to advertise your work in office just as much as you did on the campaign to win it.

When we took office, NYC had a $12B deficit. Today it’s zero. And we didn’t close that gap on the backs of working people. We closed it while funding parks, libraries, safer streets, & public housing. Call it Pothole Politics or Democratic Socialism: We are government that delivers for the people.

As I told some people on the Hill recently, Trump is writing the Dems’ ads for them. He’s at -50 on handling prices, and 50% of persuadable voters say the economy/prices is their top issue, and they trust Dems by 10 on it (will likely increase with new data). This is a huge easy W for Dems

Again this should inspire wall-to-wall media coverage for months. The crowning achievement of the Civil Rights Movement is dead. Black people just lost all of their remaining political power in the South. This is a monumental moment in American history that simply isn't being treated as such.
